Infinity Ward spells out Modern Warfare 2 voice cast

Aug 21st 2009 7:49PM (Joystiq)
Agree 100%. I was just saying a few weeks ago, after watching Coraline, that he may be my favorite voice actor working today.

Though his role in Men at Work is still hilarious.

G.I. Joe movie scribe talks up Halo adaptation

Jul 17th 2009 6:42PM (Joystiq)
Okay, seriously, why do we keep insisting that anything awesome in its own right must be made into a movie? Is there any chance whatsoever that a Halo movie -- regardless of how lovingly made -- won't be a disappointment?

Maybe the problem isn't so much that "those involved with [video game adaptations] haven't been passionate about games," but rather that games and movies simply don't translate well, seeing as how they're so vastly different from one another (and thus, those passionate about games actually make games). I understand why producers want to get in on Halo -- so long as it makes money, they don't care if it sucks -- but I really don't understand why so many gamers look at their favorite franchise and think "this is an awesome game...if only I could experience it in a way completely antithetical to a game!"

I don't mean to rant -- I just don't get why everyone wants everything to be made into a movie these days (and to be fair, it's hardly limited to games -- anytime someone tells me of a book they loved, it's immediately followed by "I can totally see it as a movie...").

Microsoft talks to GLAAD about GLBT policy issues

"Can you think of one legitimate reason why you would need to state your sexual preference in a game over an internet service?"

Um, because it's a social network?

People get to know the people they play with: they say where they're from, what they do for a living (or where they go to school), how old they are, and many other personal details. People share their beliefs, their politics, whatever they think defines who they are. And for a lot of folks, the people they date or marry help define who they are. If I'm getting to know someone I play with online, my girlfriend might come up -- do I need to avoid discussing her because it will acknowledge that I'm straight?

What you gonna watch? Ghostbusters!

I'm still a bit confused as to who the player is -- do we pick one of the 4 main characters, or are we a new character altogether, or what? Since it's an ensemble cast, I'm curious how the player fits into the story.

We deserve these Grim Fandango action figures

These are totally awesome, but I must say that Manny's head should be a bit more angular. Still, they're much cooler than anything I'll ever make.

Konami's Puzzle Chronicles ... sounds familiar

Apr 14th 2009 1:08PM (Joystiq)
I'm with you there. Comparatively, it doesn't measure up to Puzzle Quest, but it's enjoyable. The gate-hacking is monotonous, and I think it lacks the variety that Puzzle Quest had in its minigames, but for portable entertainment (I play it DS), I'm still glad I bought it.

The Tetris-variant might be fun. I do hope it's a bit more of a departure than Galactrix (which could have tweaked the formula a bit more).

ASA won't do anything about Change4Life ad

Mar 19th 2009 12:32PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, I really don't have a problem with this ad. If they had a kid sitting dumb-faced watching TV or sitting around listening to an iPod, it would have the same effect, and I'd hardly take it as an assault on those things in and of themselves (and in fact, I remember similar PSA campaigns in the '80s regarding television).

I love my consoles, but I'll happily admit that if I did nothing but sit around my living room playing them, I'd be on-track for some poor health issues. There's nothing offensive in acknowledging that.

Publishers push Sony for PS3 price cut

Mar 16th 2009 12:07PM (Joystiq)
I'm curious in the long run whether Sony will consider the PS3 a successful venture. It succeeded in helping Blu-Ray win the format war, yet the resultant cost has not been kind to their share of the game market (particularly considering the PS2's dominance of the last generation). I've got a 360, PS3, and a Wii, so I'm hardly a biased fanboy here, but every time I walk into a Gamestop, I can't help but notice how much the 360 portion of the wall dwarfs the PS3's shelf space, and the high price-point has got to have a great deal to do with that.
