March NPD: Capcom wins at software while consoles drop

Apr 17th 2009 3:08PM (Joystiq)
MLB 2k9 got a 4.5 from gamespot. The people that are buying it on the ps3 are clueless, while it's the only baseball game available for the 360. It's lower sales do show that people are aware the game sucks though, which is good.

I'm more shocked at Halo Wars selling so well, as it's a console RTS that is ranked down at the bottom of the Major Nelson's top 10 list of Live activity. If that game can sell well off the Halo universe, Halo ODST will be huge for MS. It's really gotta frustrate Sony to see MS being able to use cruise control with lesser exclusives this year and the lowest console price.

Microsoft: 2.5 billion Achievements served

Apr 7th 2009 12:48AM (Joystiq)
I only have a 40k score on the 360, but I think that the ps3 trophies are the next generation, or better implementation of the whole concept.

People who have never earned every achievement in a game have higher scores than me, as the higher 360 scores usually mean they have played more games. Sony actually improved on the whole achievement system with their platinum trophy, since it shows you earned all the others in that game. If the 360 had that system, I'd have 14 platinum trophies. It actually shows the higher skilled players.

Fallout 3's Pitt pulled from Marketplace, back tomorrow [update]

Mar 24th 2009 8:01PM (Joystiq)
MS is good at this. I remember how the NG2 DLC was glitched, and the update to put it in the game actually broke the game. All while they plastered ads for it on the dashboard. I hope this is fixed fast.

kind of annoying that you can't even trust if anything is actually release worthy anymore.

North Carolina considering digital download tax

Jan 28th 2009 2:53PM (Joystiq)
NC has almost 9% unemployment, and a 30 cent per gallon state gas tax. Adding more taxes won't help anyone in hard times.

Besides, how will this even work right? What if I bought a MS point card in a store, and having paid sales tax already, have to pay it again on EACH item I get with the points.

BlowOut now an Xbox Original, yay?

Jan 19th 2009 5:40PM (Joystiq Xbox)
actually, it released in 2003 at $9.99. So it makes perfect snese for MS to not only throw this horrible game on XBL, but for $15

CoD 4: Over 10 million served, 2.8% survive 'Airplane' on veteran

Jan 8th 2009 2:05PM (Joystiq)
I'm one of the 2.8%

woohoo!

That level is only really hard because it involves luck. You can have the perfect route and technique down, but you can't control how the enemies get affected by the flash grenades. If they fall in the aisles, they slow you down and you pretty much lose.

I tried it for hours, as finally the clouds vanished, the sun shined down and the the seas parted as the wind became calm. I made it through perfectly..only to shoot the hostage.

Sony could break even on PS3 in '09, finally get agressive with pricing

Dec 23rd 2008 8:35PM (Joystiq)
has the ps3 even had a real price drop though? They launched at $500 and $600, and both the 80 and 160 gig models are just the cheaper 40 gig version with a larger HDD...still for $400 and $500.

Switching to a lower model and adding in hard drive size isn't really a price drop. It'll really be interesting to see how these sell when they can manufacture them cheap enough to not have to jumble features and hard drives around for a fake price drop.

EA gives up trying to take over Take-Two

Sep 14th 2008 7:53PM (Joystiq)
How is this officially the end?

EA still bought like 20% of TT shares during the process, and has only walked away from formal merger talks. Their march in the other direction will make TT's stock price fall, which could enable EA to buy them up cheaper than if TT had accepted the deal months ago.

This is still possible, unless EA makes a public effort to sell off their TT shares and wash their hands clean of the company.

EA extends Take-Two takeover offer to Aug. 18

Jul 21st 2008 1:50PM (Joystiq)
if EA's offer is so horrible, then why have they been able to even get 15% of T2's total shares?

They may up the offer, but why not try to get 20-25% with the current, "inadequate" offer on the cheap. Even if they don't buy them up outright, they may still end up with a nice chunk of the company, as they did with Ubisoft.
