Bioware supports episodic content

Jan 19th 2007 12:02AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Episodic content is probably one of the best ideas out there. Let's take Gears of War for example, the have a very good gameplay mechanic down, with fun multiplayer and great weapons. The only things that would really need to be redone is the matchmaking system, and that might be possible through a patch of some kind. So if they release episodic content, every quarter then we pay 10-25 dollars for another act which each has about 5-8 missions in it. And you can buy them when ever you want to get some more stuff out of the campaign. These episodes could also contain new maps, and gametypes for multiplayer. Now let's say that they release a sequel several years later, with changes to a gameplay that was fine to begin with new maps, without the old ones, and another disc we have to switch out to play the old campaign and multiplayer. So the choices are a game that is changed for almost no good reason to make more money, or a game that's core concept is kept the same with ad ons that enhance the experience, and in addition make the game have a longer appeal as gamers are treated to new content every few montsh.

Jack Thompson helps Boston's Mayor Menino draft legislation

Jan 9th 2007 2:15AM (Joystiq)
Jack Thompson is a clever, clever man. This piece of shit legislation is so cleverly worded that it would take a thousand years to point out all the reasons this is gonna get smacked down by The Courts. Also this is so obviously vague it would also take a thousand years to discover the true depths of it's deception. It's worded to seem that the banning of video games would be decided by what society decides, and it would supposedly change with each generation, since it is based on the adults in the community. But of course this would mean that whatever generation passes this law would stay in power, based on the fact that society would not change since it would be exposed to one, and only one set of ideas. Like I said Jack Thompson is a clever, clever man.

Gears of War update: more talk, less tagging

Jan 8th 2007 1:51PM (Joystiq)
The fact that they are making it harder to play on Xbox Live with friends is a fairly stupid mistake. One of the biggest reasons is that Microsoft pushes Xbox Live as a community and a place to play with friends, but now if you want to get achievements, or get ranked on the leader board you can't play with friends. This is a serious mistake on epics part, since people who really want to cheat, will find a way around this, and those who play legit will just be fucked.

Wii-tarded wiinjurie jokes escalating

Dec 21st 2006 3:05PM (Joystiq)
On a slow news day this is how the story shall read:

"The Nintendo Wii is a popular video game that was released late last year. But what consumer's did not know was that the game they were buying for their child was an instrument of death! Already there has been much damage done due to the falty wrist strap of the system, and honest working American's have had there new ultra-big-flatscreen-plasma TVs destroyed due to this problem. But that is not the worst of it! Young children have received black eyes, and bruised arms due to the nature of the system's 'motion' sensing controller. Is it really worth it? Is the price that young children pay, worth the 'entertainment' we get from this game? Or are we just full of sh*t, exagerating stories about video games everytime there's a slow news day? I think not, this is definetly the fault of video games! F**k you America, and good night.
