Flow gets a website

I'll take a look at this but I don't know why YummyFTP is so overlooked, it's definitely the best FTP client for the Mac.

Got files to transfer? Check out Yummy FTP

I second this - Yummy FTP is a great app and the developer is very helpful. I don't know why Transmit gets all the attention when this (IMHO) superior FTP client is available...

Mom & Pop plot to screw you out of a PS3... and put food on their table

Apr 13th 2006 8:14AM (Joystiq)
If you absolutely have to have it - and remember, this is a games console, not food for your family or medical care :) - straight away and are willing to pay inflated prices, then such eBayers will have a market. Fair play all round, I guess?

The solution is to exercise some self-control and wait until the console is actually buyable before buying it. I mean, you'll have waited some 5 years already, what's another month or so?

Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 5D in online grudge match

Mar 28th 2006 3:17AM (Engadget)
This is utterly pointless, folks. When my wife bought an SLR, she tried D70 and 350D... she has small hands and found the 350D more comfortable, figured the D70 was too heavy, so went with the Canon - she knew she'd carry it with her more often.

That sort of value judgment is *way* more important than nitpicking over specs. Go with what works for you, what you like the feel of. Pretty much all DSLRs are great cameras, the user is by far the most important component.

BBEdit 8.2.5

If you don't mind spendy a little, then TextMate is the absolute dog's. Best text editor around on any platform IMHO - far more elegant than BBEdit. http://macromates.com/

Just
the electronics, add your own drive. Maybe a bit chunky ood value for £60 if you have any spare 2.5" drives.

TextMate 1.5 reviewed

Textmate is (IMHO) the best text editor around. It's far more elegant than BBEdit - instead if having giant menus full of stuff, practically everything is acheived through customisable functions etc. Eg there is a convert to entities command for HTML editing - but actually it's just a custom function that sends your text to the command line, uses PHP to convert it and gets it back again.

For those who are proficient in the shell and speak regex as a first language (unfortunately not me) there are few limits to what you can do with it. Check out screencasts at http://macromates.com/blog/archives/2005/12/16/screencast/

TUAW Tip: Trimming tracks in iTunes

Jan 28th 2006 2:41PM (TUAW.com)
Along the lines of comment #4, if you set a start and stop time, you can do Advanced (or right-click) > Convert to AAC (Or MP3) - it will use current import settings and make a new track cropped to your spec.

This is great for grabbing bits of songs to use for ringtones!

Sony Reader details and pics

Jan 6th 2006 7:24PM (Engadget)
I *really* like the idea of an ebook reader with a good non-backlit, high-res screen. However, I don't think I'll be getting one just yet:

* Too expensive - but fair enough for those early adopters.

* 'approximately 20-25% below regular retail price' - so, still more than it costs to buy the book at Amazon. Why, as with music, should I pay more to download it? It costs them almost nothing. When it's half the (going) price of the book, then I'll be interested.

* You'll have to use Sony software with it. Sony software is extremely lame. And likely no Mac support.

Maybe someone will take this idea and do it properly some day?
