DS Daily: How do you homebrew?

Jan 20th 2007 4:40PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
If you've got a Mac, choose one with a card slot (e.g. supercard) rather than inbuilt ram (e.g. G6). Then there's no hardware to be concerned with, just copying files to the card. Both should work though.

As for applications, movies have to be converted to a proprietary format to play on the homebrew player called 'Moonshell' you can download, and I don't know of a converter for the mac.

I own a Supercard lite and replaced the firmware with FlashMe v7.

I use a hori extendable one. One of them broke, the other one's great (I got two).

Wario thumbs his nose at widescreen

Jan 16th 2007 2:19PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think it's more essential the 4:3 is supported, though I'm in widescreen myself. The obviously inconsistent presentation in Warioware would obviously make it hard to change the aspect.

DS Daily: What do you look for in a case?

Jan 16th 2007 2:14PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Soft case, non scratchy design, as many DS card as poss (most have gba storage, I find this pointless. Nice simple design without giant logos (MadCatz is out, Hori is in).

Wii Warm Up: Those old folks

Jan 14th 2007 11:13AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My grandparents want one, though my grandma really can't figure it out they sounded like they'd be happy to part with the cash. Well off though, I should add, which unfortunately is not the case for most pensioners.

DS Daily: Down the line

Jan 14th 2007 11:10AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'd scrap the cards (although it would still have a DS slot) and replace it with a bit of flash memory so anybody with WiFi or a Wii could download the games, or it gets uploaded in a shop. Widescreen's probable (though maybe just for the top screen, and I suppose the speakers would have to be smaller and next to the buttons), and i'd put an analogue stick in the centre underneath the touchscreen (where your middle finger goes). Microsd slot and mini usb, tilt sensor, anything really but adding too much would impact overall useability.

And a screen that doesn't mind being thumbed.

DS Daily: do you homebrew?

I do, with a supercard lite and a 1GB card.

British Parliament member says we need to stop playing games

Jan 5th 2007 6:09PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Boris Johnson is a comedy toff. He's not in touch, young people and left-wingers find him amusing. When I was younger I would go 'can I finish this bit first.' But that's more of a design flaw, most modern games are split into short bursts, and any good game I'd be happy to do a bit twice.

DS Fanboy poll: Where do you play?

Dec 23rd 2006 10:32AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Whenever the mood takes me. Nobody else at my school has a DS so I can't really play it there though.
