Replacing an XBOX DVD drive

Feb 17th 2006 8:15AM (Joystiq)
"Of course they might have at least added that opening the Xbox, besides voiding any warranty, also makes the console ineligible for any service my MS customer care."

If your DVD drive has fizzled out from long term use than I would guess your warranty was up a long time ago. If you still have a warranty than there would be no reason to buy a replacement drive no would there? People really get hung up on this non-existant "coustomer care" crap.

Mexico and Colombia welcome the 360

They have electricity in Mexico and Columbia???

Why's the original Xbox cost more now?

Feb 6th 2006 4:32PM (Joystiq)
I was the reader who sent the tip in.

"Why not buy one used? There are tons in used game shop... not to mention ebay."

Because many of the parts such as DVD drives (Thompson in particular), hard drives, power supplies, etc, wear out or break down over time.

"Circuit city has it for $150 still though: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Microsoft-Xbox-Video-Game-System/sem/rpsm/oid/87658/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
"

I
went to the website and tried ordering one online after reading this. After putting in all your shipping and credit card information you get a message saying they don't have any even though it says "in stock". Same deal if you call and try to order over the phone. It shows up in their computers as "in stock" until after they process your order.

What I have a problem with more than anything else is that they are charging $30 extra dollars for a game that retails for $19.99 everywhere.

Nontransferable save game data (Xbox 360 annoyance #013)

Feb 6th 2006 4:00PM (Joystiq)
"I see 13 annoyances (negative feedbacks) and only 7 delights (positive feedbacks) on the Xbox 360 thus far. I'm not a die-hard MS fanboy, but I would even have to conclude with them numbers that Joystiq does not really like MS that much."

A more valid conclusion might be that there are a number of things that Microsoft simply could have done better. I own all current gen consoles and intend on owning all next gen consoles as well. Simply pointing out areas that could be improved doesn't make one a fan boy of another system, just observent.

PSP to increase lead over DS in 2005

Jan 24th 2006 2:56PM (Joystiq)
I have a PSP and a DS and haven't seen a whole lot of games for the psp worth buying, or even playing. The only thing that makes the PSP worth owning is home brew and the ability to play emulators although Sony tries to discourge that by requiring firmware upgrades on the new games that almost seem worth buying. If a firmware upgrade is required however, the game isn't worth it in my opinion. When some half-way decent games come out for the PSP we will see. And by the way, the reason that the psp has been outselling the DS since christmas in Japan is the same reason as why the gamecube has been outselling the 360 here, there simply arent any to buy.

Phantasy Star Universe delayed

Jan 24th 2006 9:12AM (Joystiq)
It really is a big mistake for them to be releasing PSU for a system once it is on it's way out. They would be better off if they ported the game without any graphicial enhancements to a next gen system
