Joystiq Poll: WASD or arrows? Pick one!

Hmmm.... after RTFA, I see that WASD+mouse was the default for Quake, so I must have seen it before. Oh, well, I knew there was no God anyway.

I think the article misses the mark by insisting that one particular key configuration is teh b3st. The obvious common sense is: use what's comfortable for you, but make sure you try out everything just to be sure.

Me, I think I'm going to give ESDF a try. That looks pretty nice.

Another point in favor of the nipple mouse: since your right hand is also on the keyboard, you can use three fingers on your right hand for button pressing duties.

Joystiq Poll: WASD or arrows? Pick one!

I just had to comment because of the name.

I started playing WASD + mouse back when I first started playing Quake. I initially played through it with my old Doom keymappings (Alt+arrow for strafe, Shift+arrow for looking up/down). Then, and I swear this is exactly how it happened, I had a dream one night where I was playing with WASD and the mouse, and the game worked so much better. I woke up and just started playing that way, with no trouble switching over. I hadn't heard of that configuration at that time, so the religious among you may choose to believe that God himself taught me how to game.

I had a Thinkpad with a nipple mouse at the time, which I still believe is one of the best mouse interfaces for gaming.
