Wii-DS link-play confirmed for Spore, plus new Wii info in latest NGamer

Sep 7th 2006 5:59PM (Joystiq)
God I HATE buying batteries. 30 hrs doesn't sound like enough. That's probably not even enough for one run through of a Zelda game. Hopefully they'll also release a rechargeable battery pack.

Not-so Classic Wii downloads less than $10 [update 1]

NEW GAMES are gonna cost 500 to 1000 Yen. NEW GAMES! Jostiq crew need to update this post.

And the 500 to 1000 Yen price is an estimate for Japan. Remember, prices in Japan tend to be higher than those here in the US. I'm guessing the US price will be closer to $2.99 for the lower end games.

Japan: Famitsu opinion poll favors Nintendo's Wii

Amazing!! Halo 3, an American made FPS, made a japanese top 10 list. That should be a story on its own.

Wii impressions: the E3 experience

May 12th 2006 2:40PM (Joystiq)
James seems to have a lot of trouble getting used to the new controls. But comments on the controls vary greatly. Some gamers seem to adjust quickly and enjoy the games, some not so much.

Personally, I had no problem adjusting. My 1st experience with the Wii remote was with Metroid and while it took a little while to figure out the sensitivity of the pointer, by the end, I was doing just fine.

Madden worked awesome. Some people seem to want to throw by just flicking their wrist, but that didn't seem to work well. I would bring to controller up to shoulder height to hike the ball, leave it there til I was ready to throw, at which point I'd swing the remote forward like a real throw motion. And it worked perfectly. I don't know if its better or more intuitive than the current controls, but it is certainly more interesting.

So I think everyone just needs to try it themselves. If you don't like it and don't want to try to get used to it then there are two other consoles on the market.

SSX on a skateboard. Graphics look a little sub par, even by current gen standards.

Nintendo "Revolution" now called "Wii" [update 6]

Apr 27th 2006 5:09PM (Joystiq)
Its amazing how fickle the hard core gaming/Joystiq crowd seems to be. Being angered by a name that different from the norm, for a system thats different from the norm, to swear off Nintendo or start thinking twice about purchasing the system is pretty sad. We all got excited (well everyone but those hard core gamer posers) about this system because of the controller, not because it was called the Revolution.

While i don't think its a great name, primarily because its a little awkward to say "Wanna play some Wii," it will probably end up being known as the "Nintendo Wii" and "The Nintendo", so the awkwardness won't matter.

So... VIVA LA Wii!!

Oh, and its pronounced "We", not "Weeee". The piss jokes are already getting old.

Nintendo "Revolution" now called "Wii" [update 6]

Apr 27th 2006 1:20PM (Joystiq)
My initial reaction to was pure laughter. But now that i've thought about it a little more, it just might work. Wii is a name thats very easy to remember, easy to say, and easy to talk/joke about. This will help gets its name stuck in the brains of the general public.

And the lowercase 'i' seems to be very popular and synonymous with high tech gadgetry these days (iPod, Wi-Fi, ViiV, etc...). So some will see the 'i' and think, "ooooh, high tech gizmo. Must buy now."

I also wonder if Nintendo will try to pimp the 'Nintendo' name alongside 'Wii'. So you'd here 'Nintendo Wii' as opposed to just 'Wii'. Then people may just end up calling it 'The Nintendo'.

EA says Madden Revolution not a port

I foresee a lot of sweaty palms mucking up my Rev controllers.

Who's really going to support the Wii? [update 12]

Apr 24th 2006 12:02PM (Joystiq)
That's awesome that a few no-name developers are working on the Revolution. Hopefully some small indy teams will be able to get there stuff onto the Rev also.

As for the big name publishers, I'm sure there are several have exclusive games that they will be announcing at E3.

Red Steel with no blood?

Why are so many people blaming Nintendo for this? Its Ubisofts decision. A mature rating limits their potential buyers so they've decided to go with the teen rating to make more $$$. Lots of companies do it.
