Report: Only 35 songs from Guitar Hero World Tour work with GH5 [update]
Sep 2nd 2009 10:41AM (Joystiq)No matter how much you want to defend the GH franchise... moves like this make it look pretty bad. Giving partial information before launch setting up false hopes:
- You can import DLC, GHWT and GH:SH songs into GH5. We are now forward thinking! You only need to pay a small fee once and your previous games will work great with GH5. You will just need to redownload songs but that's no big pain, is it?
And then at the nick of time giving us the sad truth:
- Oh you tought you could play AAAALL the content from the two previous games? He he, funny thing you see... you will only be able to pay a third of GHWT and sometime in the fall, about only 1/2 of SH. We are working on getting more songs available to you sometime in the future... but heck! DLC made the cut! So why not go ahead and make up for the difference by buying a few DLC songs?
Celio's REDFLY down to $199, still $198 too expensive
Sep 25th 2008 7:59PM (Engadget)But before anything else, here's the thing: if you do not own a smartphone of any kind, then yes, seriously this thing is useless to you, $199 is a joke and a Netbook will do marvels for you. That oughta be clear from the very beginning.
OK, now assume you do have a smartphone. In my case, it's a Tilt (yes, just like the marketing picture :) ) and indeed, using the phone in stand-alone has been so far so good. Where I have found my phone being somewhat limited is on the screen, it is very tiny and if I have to show pictures to someone, well there's only so much you can do with 320x240 pixels. Also, when I receive email from friends, thumb-typing in the phone gets tiring pretty fast, not to mention that even if I do type my replies would be one sentence long because the tiny keyboard drives me nuts; I usually have to wait 'til I'm next to a PC to do the reply and more than once I never do it since well, in this DNA age after 5 minutes news become old news and I loose my interest.
Anyways, using the Redfly as an extension of the phone, has shown me many things: Windows mobile is powerful, yes it may be ugly and bloated and what have yous but you do see the power under the hood when the phone automatically detects Mice, keyboards, flash drives and whatever is plugged into the USB ports of the Redfly. The Redfly effectively transforms your Smartphone into a Netbook!
Is the price right? well, coming from someone who paid $0 for it may not be considered a fair assesment, but I do think $199 is a bit high. $150 would be my limit. Is this for a day-to-day use? I would argue that if you use your smartphone for everything on a daily basis, Redfly may ease your pain when typing and ease your eye-strain; the unit is perfect for travel since it makes a convincing argument for not bringing a laptop with you.
So there, a few thoughts from someone who has used this and has seen its potential...
Rock Band impressions ... from a Best Buy kiosk
Nov 5th 2007 4:39PM (Joystiq)And by the way guys, it's not Gorgon's Knot, it's actually Gordian Knot.
Best Buy gouging on 360 accessory prices
Aug 13th 2007 5:00PM (Joystiq)The $60 Rock Band saga continues
Aug 9th 2007 2:56PM (Joystiq)How to put it? In the brick-and-mortar store they have the policy that if you find the same item you purchased labeled for less elsewhere, they will honor that price. So there you have it. That ishow I got a cheap version of Black & White (the PC game) for $20 since in the store the game was marked with a $20 sticker when in fact it should have been sold at $40. It was a store clerk error yes but they honored the $20. And that is a fact and there's legalese written all over their flyers with this policy in mind.
And greed is where a company wants to charge you $150 for PC repair and setup services that, in all fairness, should be free or not more than a few tens of dollars. Greed is to want to have more when you already have all the cards on your side. Greed is when you care about nothing else to achieve your goal by any means necessary.
A big company made an error labeling something incorrectly, and we all played the game placing the pre-orders. They corrected the error and the gave a sub-par solution. They are also trying to play the game, otherwise they wouldn't have given out anything and just cancelled the pre-orders without further notice.
What if this had been a small Momma & Papa shop? Where do you draw the line? I draw it there. For a small shop I'd have raised the issue "hey guys, you must be making a mistake". For a big corporation, listed in NASDAQ and with a long story of bad consumer-oriented services; when they make the mistake the story changes completely.
This is not ethics. This is real-life marketplace between corporations and consumers. They make mistakes, we make them pay. I want to see how they would act if you make a mistake that affects/benefits them...
The $60 Rock Band saga continues
Aug 8th 2007 5:44PM (Joystiq)I may end up going the arguing route and see what happens. Yes mistakes do happen, but when they are on the customer side boy do companies make sure to get you good! So why when they make the mistakes should we be lenient with them?
I have print outs of my order and the original webpage. I will definitely make a stink out of the entire deal. Had the same thing happened in a brick-and-mortar store, they would have to honor the displayed price, period. If for some reason they cannot honor it, at least they should be able to provide something better in exchange, $5 coupon sounds way too little. No need to call me greedy, I already spend too much dough in BB so I can tell you I am a loyal customer and as such I want them to keep providing me with good customer support.

Oops! Sony declares SIXAXIS Emmy, Emmys say "uh-uh"
Jan 10th 2007 2:33AM (Joystiq)Now, the SIXAXIS ... wait, I wrote it backwards... the SIXAXIS is not even an evolution of the Dual shock, instead it goes backwards with no rumble, tacky motion sensing and wireless technology that needs a wire to transmit the proper keys and synchronize with the console (say wha'.. wasn;t it wireless?).
Man, it plain sucks being Sony lately...
PS3 controller wins Emmy award [update 1]
Jan 8th 2007 6:58PM (Joystiq)All of the technologies that comprise the controller are definitely not new, I mean the controller itself is almost a decade old, Bluetooth has been there for years now, motion technology exists since the Sidewinder. What else could it be? was the number of submissions to the Awards so poor that the judges decided "heck, between this thing and the Gizmondo, we can clearly see a winner"?...
