Exclusive: Upcoming Apple TV loses 1080p playback, gains apps... and will be renamed iTV

Aug 11th 2010 5:46PM (Engadget)
@MarkAnderson
Apple is planning on purchasing the UK for its intellectual property and its programmers.

I'd also like to point out that the obvious fact that the Engadget comment system results consistently in a huge number of replies to the very first commenter, regardless of content. That's a serious flaw.

Maybe the studios are realizing that unless their movies are available for instant watching on Netflix, a lot of people just won't watch them.

You probably already realize that watching a 2D video of a 3D demonstration results in not seeing 3D.

IMO, the lack of CableCard support (the result of the cable industry's successful campaign of resistance) killed MCE. There were some other factors, like the expense and the complexity. But just as there were high-end home theater PC makers, case manufacturers, etc. ready to go with MCE systems -- maybe about 4 years ago -- the lack of CableCard support became a really obvious problem, even for those of us who were interested in an MCE system.

I don't recognize the case, it might be their own design. However, if you want to build one of these PCs, this is a good resource:

Pandora handheld now shipping: first mass-produced unit unboxed, world somehow survives

May 23rd 2010 12:46PM (Engadget)
@Xylias
It is about the same size as the original NDS (i.e., the NDS "Phat"), which had a similar slate-gray option (at least in Japan, and maybe elsewhere as well).

Regarding the overall design, the Pandora is clearly designed around the gaming controls and the ergonomics of handheld gaming. All of the keys are easily accessible while holding the device. IMO, the design is the only one that makes sense for this type of device.

A lot of people act as if the most important thing about a gadget is that it looks nice in a photograph, and not that it can be easily used for hours at a time. I think that's a mistake.
