Engadget's recession antidote: win a copy of Halo Wars for Xbox 360!
Jun 5th 2009 12:13PM (Engadget)But hopefully a free copy of Halo Wars will help my personal economic state.
GameFly underestimating 360 demand?
Sep 27th 2006 11:43AM (Joystiq Xbox)On the plus side if you want to buy allot of games you can purchase games from them really REALLY cheap! Used Chrome Hounds sells at our local Gamestop for $54.00 and I picked it up from Gamefly for $40.00. Plus every three months you get a $5.00 off coupon to take more money off there used games. So if you want to use it as a try before you buy service it is really a great service. I think I have bought 5 or 6 games from them and have only had one problem with the game disk itself. And to their credit, I returned the game back to them and they promptly credited my credit card.
I tried Gamerang myself and they have a distriubtion center only 70 miles from my house. It still took three days from the time I mailed it to the time they would receive a game, and then another three days from the time they sent it to the time that it showed up in my mail box. And the prices for their used games was pretty much the same as Gamestop. Game availablity was in my exerince a little worse than Gamefly. So I have to say I was not really impressed with their service.
I was playing UNO a few nights ago with a guy who recommended gameznflix, so I think I am going to try that out.
I am kind of glad to hear that it is not just me who is having problems with Gamefly. I would really like it XBox360fanboy, would cover more posts like this and less concerning the PS3.
360 FIFA gets 1/4 the leagues of PS2, Xbox [update 1]
Sep 19th 2006 11:48AM (Joystiq Xbox)Someone said this a while back and I think it applies just as much now, "At the end of the day the shame of buying EA games does not wash off!"
Level 5's Lair to be in 1080p? Sign us up, please
Aug 17th 2006 9:32AM (Joystiq Playstation)360 games rock the sales charts
Aug 16th 2006 2:30PM (Joystiq Xbox)Also with the accessories figure. I am curious how they can accurately gauge this since extra controllers could be used my a Window XP machine? When the wireless steering wheel, video camera, and HD-DVD drive come out that 2.9 will probably be closer to the 4.6 number.
I think that the new XNA program will be very cool and will hopefully open up tons of possibilities. Possibly games in the educational field, or games for small children.
G4, Jack Thompson yell at each other
Aug 11th 2006 1:01AM (Joystiq)I am probably going to get beat up here by a bunch of people who beleive that they are real parents because they only let their children play Finding Nemo. But my daughter who was 14 at the time watched me playing GTA:SA. Instead of making it the forbidden fruit I let her play a while. After we were done I asked her some questions about things she had done in the game, and about real life. We agreed that while it would be fun to do some of the things in the game in real life when people piss you off, you can not do that because it is the wrong thing to do. About two weeks later we were at the mall and some body pulled out in front of me, she said "Oh if we were playing GTA:SA we could both jump out of the car and take care of them." And I guess I fee comfortable that she understands that there are things like jacking cars, and beating people up with baseball bats that you do in video games but when you hit the power button that world ends and you return to the world where you have to treat people with respect and follow the laws of the land.
#24 Brian, do you happen to have any links to that study where the agressiveness only lasts for about an hour? If so please post them on here I would love to read more about that.
#30 Will, Interesting post and concepts. I see the reason you feel their testing pattern is flawed. It would be similar to giving a test too 20 students. Pick out the 10 dumber of the children, feed them a jelly donut before the test. While feeding the 10 brighter kids an apple. When the higher percentage of the dumber children do poorly as expected you make the statement that eating jelly donuts before a test will cause you to do poorly on examinations.
I am a paramedic so I have a very limited heath background. But the agressive behavior that they are describing shortly after playing violent video games could possibly be explained by the body producing adrenline in response to the preceived exicitment.
#34 Robert Egolf, I agree with you I think Adam Sessler is a very intelligent person, I think he is playing the dorky character on XPlay. I thought Sessler brought up some good points, I think he just needs to work on his debate edicate.
#49 Ross, I guess I kind of tend to agree with you. When you are a kid you can not buy Playboy, you can not buy cigerettes or beer. These are all things that are denied you until you are deemed to be an adult by society. To be honest I guess if the guys at Gamestop, EB Games, Best Buy, Walmart or any other retail store need to start carding people I am OK with that. It is when they say that these types of games can not be made I start having a problem.
#55 Jordan, I was under the impression that there are state if not federal laws that prohbit the sale of media like Playboy to people under the age of 18.
HD-DVD drive will be the cheapest
Aug 10th 2006 11:34AM (Joystiq Xbox)I agree with guitarfish, a downloadable service like he described would be the absolute best. The only thing I would add to that is that I would like it available to Windows Media center so that I could have the movie download straight to my media server then it can be viewed by any 360 or media center PC, or media extender in the house.
jc, If you are really concerned about the HDMI check out Major Nelson’s podcast and assocated links about the HD-DVD drive. In there the technicians that worked on the hard ware explain why they feel they get just as good picture out of componet as HDMI port. Just thought I would post a link if you or anyone else is interested.

Lloyd, well you will actually be paying the same price since the Xbox 360 itself is $400 and if the HD-DVD player comes out at $200 it will be the same as buying the PS3 which is priced at $600. So I disagree with you that it is free, it just bundled into the price.
Sony's Phil Harrison's foot seeks his mouth again, misses
Aug 8th 2006 5:00PM (Joystiq Playstation)As for downloadable games I like the idea as long as a few things are met. First since I am sure these will be keyed to the machine they are downloaed to, and there will be no way to resell the game once you the gamer are finished with it, I really would like to see game price cut but about a third. Game publishers should be able to do this since now they will be selling more copies of the game since this will virtually kill the used game market. The other thing that if my console dies I need some way to transfer this game to new console or to the next generation of that console. As for speed and download times I am not terribly concerned with that. Internet speeds are climbing all the time and it is only a matter of time before the demands of other entertainment (movies & music & telephone & hopefully soon TV) create the need for faster internet speeds.
Rockstar pulls plug on Xbox Bully?
Aug 3rd 2006 9:33PM (Joystiq)Please do not think me to be a Playstation fanboy because nothing could farther from the truth. I usually find myself enjoying the experince that XBox and Xbox360 provides far more then the experince Playstation provides. That said the one thing that you have to give Sony credit for is their BC. The PS2 has something like a 97% to 98% BC of PS1 games, and the PS3 is suppose to have the PS2 chipset in it so that it is 100% BC with PS2. So kudos to Sony there. Although I like Microsofts idea behind making an emulator better then more hardware inside an already crowded box, it seems that Sony's way of doing things has found allot more sucess.
So to answer your question I think allot of developers are wary to invest big dollars into a Xbox 1 product with only a small chance of it being able to be played on the Xbox 360. Where as developing a product for the PS2 has a much larger installed customer base, and there is guarented support with the next gen of the console.
If Microsoft is smart they will learn from this little error they made and make sure that the next XBox Console is completely backward compatible with all or at least most of the XBox 360 titles.
HD-DVD external drive the next big thing
Aug 3rd 2006 9:01PM (Joystiq Xbox)After looking at the picture on your site that is more of what I was thinking. In the picture that is in this article the HD-DVD drive looks like it is almost the same size as the 360 itself. Where as on your website the photo looks like it is maybe only one third the size.
