Blu-ray is justified, says Sony
Aug 1st 2007 11:40AM (Joystiq Playstation)Not for Sony.
360, like XBOX1, is here only till 09, so DVD09 is ok. PS3, like PS1 / PS2, is here for 7-8 years.
AND they are charging just USD100 extra for BR..while it cost USD500-1000 on the market, at the same time M$ charges USD50 EACH YEAR for a product thats free everywhere else: online multiplayer.
Or maybe Sony cheated customers by forcing a near-zero defect product on cutomers rather than penny-pinching the MS way? That would have made the price USD50 lower, with a 33% defect rate.
Or maybe M$ are doing customers favours with proprietary hard drives and wifi with 100-200% markup or charging?
yeah, its expensive now. But in a year the PS3, with BR, free multiplayer, HDMI, wifi, 60GB, robust quality, 1200+ backward compatibility will be 399 or maybe even lower. While the 360 will still be a defective, crippled and sub-standard unit.
Microsoft makes bet: Sony will unveil $399 PS3 this year

Jul 24th 2007 2:37AM (Joystiq Playstation)Ken Kutaragi, remember his name because whatever mistakes he did this time, he has sold 200 million consoles (twice as many as everyone else over the period) and shaped the industry over the last 10 years.
And would disagree on Halo 3 - in fact other way round, it has a bunch of fanatic followers who care only for Halo, nobody else is bothered. And though may drive sales, most of the fanatics are the one who bought a 360 last year - who else would, with almost no good titles? And for everyone else, Halo 3 is running straight into COD4, UT3, Haze and 5-6 other great FPS. It may actually harm 360 - the hype for Halo 3 strangled the excellent Crackdown and would overshadow the other titles like Mass Effect - anyone noticed how clustered the 360 titles are, just 2-3 AAA exlcusives in 18 months, a lot of titles in 2nd of half 2007 and again almost nothing in 2008.
Killzone 2 developers talk development, E3 2005
Jul 11th 2007 1:28PM (Joystiq Playstation)"Don’t forget one thing: This game is PRE-pre-alpha! So, not PRE-Alpha, PRE-PRE! So, please don’t start some “Hey, can you see that texture poppin’ up! PLEASE, stop it, ok? There will be much more details, effects and so on. Give us some time."
Holy f****** s***
Deal of the day: PS3 + game + HDMI cable = £399.85
May 27th 2007 6:56AM (Joystiq Playstation)I wonder how much margin they get on this stuff, whats the catch here?
Gothic 4 announced for PS3, sans developer Pluto 13
May 24th 2007 8:17AM (Joystiq Playstation)360 better in "traditional gameplay"? Is that the new name coined by xbots for generic, alien-hating, plays-better-on-PC shooter titles?
And the E3 2006 beta was about, one year back? Did you see recent playvids? Or rather check out the recent Halo 3 demos "looks like Halo 2" with just 4 months to go.
Eternal Sonata trailer to please... if it really goes to PS3
Apr 30th 2007 2:42PM (Joystiq Playstation)" How much can any ps3 game developer hope to sell with under 3 million install base"
To use your own sattement
"Once again, why are you looking at TOTAL GAME SALES, but only comparing it to BEGINNING CONSOLES OWNED"
hence it not 3 million PS3 NOW that matters
What matters is the PS3 installed base 2-3 months AFTER the game is launched!
So if say 4 million more PS3s sold by that time
PS3 installed base = 7 million
pawned!

So whats your point Scott?
PS3 network a boon to disease-fighting computations
Apr 25th 2007 4:11PM (Joystiq)Well said James. When was the last time the movie industry did anything like this?
#30 Its not Sony doing this..even PCs do folding...its more a question of M$ not giving two hoots for something which doesnt add to their bottomline.
And you are free not to spend a single cent on this...your wish, and as far as I know, Sony doesnt care whetehr you do or not...am sure some researcher at Stanford does, though.
The 50 extra dollars you pay for xbox live is for a service EVERY other provider (PC / PS / Ninty) gives for free
