The dude is practically invincible. He has fought and survived everything including the Flood. The only other known entity to survive the close encounters with them is SPARTAN-117. Sgt. Johnson shows no fear and has never given up in a fight and will fight with whatever is at hand. The Sgt. is adept at finding an opponent's weakness as evidenced in SPARTAN-117s fight against Tartarus.
It is arguable that there is no tougher, meaner, more fearless, ingenuitive, experienced fighter than Sgt. Johnson and that is what makes him the most feared opponent in the Halo Universe.
