HDTV Scrubs on NBC?

May 21st 2006 10:00AM (Engadget HD)
Glad I wasn't hallucinating. Taped it on the DVR, and when I saw it, like the other poster, I mentioned it to my wife. Nice surprise. I'm not sure if any show I watch anymore with any regularity is in SD. Though I'd like to see more channels in my market go HD, they surprise me from time to time and add another.

TiVo launches newly revised TV listings

Feb 18th 2006 11:00PM (PVR Wire)
This is yet another reminder of why I want to get my Tivo back and get rid of my crappy TWC DVR. If they would just get this Series 3 unit up and running so I could use CableCard, all would be good. All would be good.
I was kinda startin' to feel gung ho about an HTPC, but I know that Microsoft, in order to help protect intellectual property, which I can understand, is going to DRM the heck out of everything. Sooooo, I'll just use a Tivo, and get the other functions I want from an HTPC out of my Xbox 360 as a media center extender.

TNT-HD is up on DIRECTV

Feb 18th 2006 10:52PM (Engadget HD)
I have TNT-HD through Time Warner ... they've had it since I bought by HDTV about a year ago. I'm a little frustrated though, since TWC hasn't introduced a new HD channel, well, since I signed up. Sad. But I have to say I watch a fair amount of TV on that channel, and it's pretty good. Good for DirecTV for pickin' it up.

Day 6 of Engadget Mobile's 30 days of cellphone giveaways

Feb 18th 2006 10:49PM (Engadget Mobile)
I'd love to win a phone ... but like most people, I never win anything. I used to be kinda anti-cell phone, but now that I use a Treo for all kinds of work related stuff, they're growing on me. Free phone here we come.

Franchise flashback: games to see on the Xbox 360

Feb 18th 2006 1:54PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Like I've said on my own blog, these classic titles are great on the 360, but they need to support some more 3rd Party controllers, aka the X-Arcade controller. I'm dying for it to be compatible with the 360, but according to their website, Microsoft is blocking them from making a controller adapter so it'll work.

I think I saw someone mention Wing Commander ... awesome, I'd definitely play that one. And you know what I'd really love to see? StarCraft. Bring StarCraft with kayboard and mouse support as well as voice chat in game to the 360, and we'll have an instant winner.

The Outfit multiplayer demo moves out March 3rd

Feb 18th 2006 1:49PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Multiplayer demos are awesome. This is how I got hooked on Battlefield 1942 for the PC, and I played that game way too much for way too long. As some of the other people have said, the genre is getting packed, but I dig it.

All these great demos though are making my 20 gig HD feel cramped. Luckily I play any media I have over the network and don't keep it on the Xbox itself.

The demos are definitely the way to get me to purchase a game ... like Fight Night 3, played and drooled over the demo, pretty sure I'll buy it the day it comes out.

Kong is loose with the gamerscore points

Feb 18th 2006 1:45PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I haven't really gotten into the whole gamer points thing, because they mean very little, especially to someone like me who is a casual gamer and has so few. But, like a previously commenter said, if they were somehow connected to a reward on Live (20% bonus on a one time microsoft points purchase, access to special online events, access to special gamercard features, etc.)then it would even encourage a casual gamer like myself to buy/rent games solely to rack up points.

Most poll voters planned to watch Super Bowl live

Feb 7th 2006 2:27AM (PVR Wire)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that many of us PVR owners would like to have watched the Super Bowl on our PVRs, quite possibly on another day. But the fact that people at work would be talking about the game, there would be news programs about the game, and commercials, and T-shirts, and blah blah blah. You'd know the outcome before you had a chance to watch the game, pretty much, ruining the whole point. The only way to avoid this, is to watch it live, or live in a bubble.

J Allard: "We're going to take on the Wikipedia model"

Feb 7th 2006 2:19AM (Joystiq)
"just so long as developers do not use it as an excuse to skimp on pre-programmed content in their games"

This is kinda like saying, "I'd be great if we could use the Internet to download updates to videogames, as long as developers don't use it as an excuse to ship unfinished and buggy games" hmmmmmmmmm.

Oblivion: Xbox 360 vs. PC

Feb 2nd 2006 2:15PM (Joystiq)
Almost 2 weeks ago, I walked into a local gaming store and walked out with a 360, $433, no $800, no waiting in the cold for 20 hours.

Maybe these guys are 360 fanboys, but the fact remains that a 360 which costs $433 is gonna run this game full tilt, and there's no PC at that price point that can claim the same.
