Nov 4th 2007 6:54AM (Second Life Insider)"Things popping in like "Second Life allows content creators to place restrictions on objects they create: you can set them to be unmodifiable, non-transferrable, and non-copyable." are the kind of infodump-style comments that bloggers will now very likely need to introduce on their articles to explain the issue to an audience that has no clue about how SL works"
That combined with a comment on an article from (I assume) a MMOG gamer:
"Second life stories make me say WTF... how is this a game that entertains?"
make me sincerely hope this is just a transition phase. Hopefully SLI will shape itself in a new, distinct format, even if still huddled up inside Massive.

Nov 2nd 2007 12:29PM (Second Life Insider)While I find other VW's interesting, well at least the future of them, since Kaneva puts me to sleep within 10 minutes, the problem is of course what we actually define as a VW.
The chaps over at Metaversed have tried, and instead of a long, long list, like the one on Massive's right margin, they ended up with only 8 of them.
Debate as we may, I think that the general audience of SLI may perhaps agree with those 8, some more, some even less.
I am not saying that I won't read you guys on Massive, heck it's you who made SLI what it is!
Maybe I be more inclined to read the RSS instead of the actual site, since the overall design strikes me as way too teenagerish, but that is a matter of taste. Some like it, some not.
But I think what worries some of your reades is that it will be a watered down, mixed up continuation.
That what was a distinct, interesting and multiperspective read will be mixed up in covering articles on hoblin gordes and starcruiser elves.
If it is a real concern or not, time will tell. Maybe we do get more conservative when we get older. But I know I am older now, at least RLwise. We want the mature coverage (which is not the same as non-humourous) that we could get here.
I read the NWN, Metaversed and Reuters too, but they lack the "catch" that you guys provided.
SLI was unique, our concern is simpl out of that.

Nov 2nd 2007 4:19AM (Second Life Insider)Going to keep tabs on you chaps and pop in over at Massively.
Since I'm a huge fan of RSS feeds, noticing that there was only one feed for all over at Massively, do you think there will be categorized feeds in a near future? Reason I ask is I read SLI on the mobile as well, and is not too keen on downloading 90% stuff that does not relate to SL.
Why do Open Source coders do it?
Oct 27th 2007 12:42PM (Second Life Insider)It's a good article and I really felt nice, reading it.
I agree with you, and with Barney.
Not sure how you can stretch it into Open Source = Communism. There is far fetched, then there is.. umm.. absurdly far-fetched? Maybe it is a cultural thing.
Anyway, Barney made a wonderful open script inworld, for an airship. I have used it for designing my own little portable hotel room while travelling the grid. The hours of joy that script has given me.. Well, sure, I would proabably have paid for an airship.. or not bought it. I tried out his by chance and realising it was open script, I made the kind of vessel I wanted. Even if I didn't tweak the script, I tweaked the prims around it, to get what I wanted.
To all of you sharing knowledge, fixing bugs and weaking stuff, a huge thank you.
As you say, Eloise, the world is a better place for it.
EU citizens - get Linden Dollars with Ukash vouchers
Oct 18th 2007 1:51AM (Second Life Insider)This sounds very interesting and it also explains one thing to me. The Austrian company closed it's earlier, similar service (paysafecard.com) for a short while and it seems they now have developed their services into Bulido. (I can't remember if it was called something else before).
Which means I can use two payment services here in Europe, Ukash and Paysafecard (http://www.paysafecardservice.com/en/bulido_homepage), both readily and easily available in banks in this country.
And for possible readers wondering why I don't use Paypal, it is simply that they and other similar US-based services do not have this country on their lists. Ok, list yes, but services, niet.
Thanks for the info, Tateru!

Relationships in SL are real
Sep 7th 2007 11:34AM (Second Life Insider)I liked Tateru's piece on Immersionist & (not vs) Augmentist, since the dichotomy falls short in my head.
There are sliding scales, but who is what? Some variants I've heard are:
I play a role in SL - I am myself in SL
I separate strictly (or less strictly) between SL and RL
and the third
I go ingame - I go inworld (more subtle there)
People can lean more to one without the others, two out of three, and so on.
However, and mind you, these are just my experiences, from SL and from over a decade in various online communities.
However, when someone, _especially_ in matters relating to relations and sex, use the "Get a grip, it's just a game", they use it as a licence to f***, who they want, when they want, how they want, and that without taking any responsibility of anyone else's feelings or experiences.
After all, why need to behave responsibly? "It's just a game"?
