Oblivion PS3 vs. Xbox 360 comparison

Mar 23rd 2007 12:43PM (Joystiq Xbox)
The 360 seems to have better lighting and anti-aliasing in the dungeon areas... and as anybody who has played this game will tell you, the dungeons are where all the fun and atmosphere in Oblivion lives.

New tattoo ink means "4ever" needn't be permanent

re: Amyloo

This is hardly the sort of thing that could be found offensive by anybody with even a microscopic sense of humor. One could effectively argue that it's actually a fitting image considering the content of the story and the nature of the blog on which it was posted. I think the vast majority of readers, be they male or female, are able to see the harmless fun in the intent. Perhaps you should lighten up a bit...

Atari founder says PlayStation an accident

Nov 8th 2006 7:24PM (Joystiq)
Playstation has always been the middle-of-the-road platform for the none-too-picky. I also really resent the fact that the PS2 has dragged down the quality of just about every cross-platform game this gen. I've always gone for the console(s) with the best balance of power/control/gameplay - that's never been the Playstation. Some of the PS3's games look like fun - just not amazing enough for me to submit to the perpetual Sony mediocrity machine.

Did video games lose it for Lieberman?

Aug 10th 2006 9:57AM (Joystiq)
I think it's because the man has zero charisma - his voice drones, he seems disingenuous, and (perhaps most importantly) the man is simply so hard to look at. I mean, let's face it, he's beyond unattractive... from the nose down Lieberman's face looks like a manatee vulva. It's brutal.

Apple's Mac Pro: redesigned Power Mac with Core 2 Duo dropping August 7?

Jul 4th 2006 11:38AM (Engadget)
Can't believe I misspelled onslaught - Engadget's comment system is in need of some edit capabilities.

Personally I think that Apple's design of the current G5 is damned near perfect in its current form - can't wait to see how they improve (or screw up) with a redesign. Now all we need is a decent pro keyboard that takes its design cues from the Pro line as opposed to the white gloss consumer stuff (which I like in that context, but it does an injustice to all that sexy aluminum in the pro space).

Apple's Mac Pro: redesigned Power Mac with Core 2 Duo dropping August 7?

Jul 4th 2006 11:30AM (Engadget)
Just as long as you're prepared to wait 2-4 months after ordering one for it to show up at your door. Every time Apple has introduced a major bump/innovation to the PowerMac line, they've overwhelmed by the demand and onslought of pre-orders. The last time I ordered a BTO top-of-the-line G5 at launch, I waited 18 weeks and saw my ship date slip 6 times. Let's hope they've learned from past mistakes.

Not every Apple store experience is a good one

May 30th 2006 5:02PM (TUAW.com)
I have a young (and admittedly freakishly advanced) boy half the age of the boy in this case, and not only is he able to navigate quite well with the trackpad/click setup on my Macbook Pro (more easily than my wife I might add), but he'll often do so while sitting on a bar stool at our kitchen counter. Never once has he mashed at the keys, poked at the screen or toppled off the stool.

Not all young children are monkeys on acid - but enough of them are I guess that erring on the side of caution is probably the safest bet in most cases. Having said that, here's a 6-year-old boy who was anticipating his trip to the Apple store for days and was even trying to talk his mother into a Macbook purchase. I say Apple should send him a new Mac (c'mon the kid's a fan at 6 - at least have him back at the store for a lower-down hands-on) and issue a press release stating any firm policies regarding small children at Apple retail locations.

Boot Camp lets Macs run Windows ... officially

Apr 5th 2006 1:22PM (Engadget)
In answer to the guy stating (correctly) a few pages back that all Macs were designed in Windows (via industrial design software like Alias Studio), there's also a lot of existing and upcoming Windows UI development (in terms of graphics) being done on Macs these days, so it really goes both ways ;)

This Bootcamp thing has garnered huge buzz already amongst my hardcore (and typically Apple-bashing) Windows-using associates - many are talking up the possibility of buying MacbookPros (as soon as Apple works out the hardware kinks of course). It'll be interesting to see where this goes.

Engadget Podcast 072 - 03.07.06

Mar 17th 2006 9:39AM (Engadget)
Hey guys, where's Podcast 073 ??? Some of us rely on some sort of schedule with these things (my daughter and I generally hang out in the car and listen in on Wednesdays while my wife takes our little guy to his toddler art class). Is this a new trend, this sporadic casting thing?

Apple iPod Hi-Fi reviewed

Mar 4th 2006 5:52PM (Engadget)
Would love to see a size-comparison with the Bose Sound Dock - I have the Bose unit in my kitchen (as do a few other people I know strangely enough) but its power brick makes for a messy countertop. Too bad there are no 'suspended-from-cupboard' options... hopefully Apple (or a decent manufacturer like Bose) will fill that niche before too long. The next version of Hi-Fi definitely needs to handle wireless streaming (and remote access) from iTunes on my Mac.
