Uninspiring demo madness: NBA 2K8 and Sega Rally samples now on Live

Sep 19th 2007 12:21PM (Joystiq)
I played the rally demo repeatedly last night and had a blast. Dirt doesn't feel nearly as connected to the road and I like the sort of arcadey feel. I had a rough time the first race and after that was getting 1st and 2nd each time. I'm no race game junky but this was "fun to play" which is key for me. Also it looked bright and shiny and had bizarre music, just like I expect form sega games. Blue sky all the way.

Halo 3 Brute video

@Chrono404

Are you mental? Halo was a multiplayer team based 3rd person comabt game for the Mac before MS bought them.

@Jork

Why are peopel makign stuff up? Epic showed test shots of the unreal engine 3 with gears of war characters 3 years ago and they looked astounding then, before anyone even knew what GoW was. The only reason Gears looked phenomi9nal from the get go is because it was a game made to show of an engine. HAlos engine is beign made along with th egame, liek most games, and there for wont look its best till much closer to show time. Not to mention the areas in halo are usualy loadfree and huge where as gears as much tighter zones. I'd rather have a massivle battle in halo with 100 characters on screen that look pretty good because its a war game and thats what it should be like. Gears looks awsome like it does cause they are only rendering liek 20 characters tops at any given time.

Halo 3 Starry Night commercial

Dec 5th 2006 3:58PM (Joystiq)
@UrbanStorm

"I am sorry but lupos there is no difference between a trailer and a comercial both try to sell you on somthing."

A comercial on television is designed to pique the buyers interest and convince them to furth investigate and hopefully purchase the item. Why should a comercial for a game show nothign but ingame graphics? In reality that coudl be very dull. Car comercials show people zipping down mountian roads or driving SUV's over moutian tops and no one says "Thats not what its like to drive a ford explorer!!11". It's a comercial and it does it's job wonderfully.

NOW, had MS stood on a stage and said, "here is a first glipse of halo3" and left it at that, it would be BS. They did not. No Dishonesty, there where no weapon counters. There where no motion trackers. There where no health/shield bars. There was no hand + gun in a First person persepctive. What there was, was a very well made ad that does an great job of getting people excited about a product.

Stop being argumentative for the sake of it... i dont think the SIXAXIS can actually turn eggs into crows!

tit.

Halo 3 Starry Night commercial

Why is this so hard to grasp. Sony showed trailers at E3, which is a press event. They mixed them in with other trailers, soem of which where real time, soem where not. They reffused to say if any of it was real time until months later. Then they admited to them being target renders, CG representations of what they think the games might look like when done. MS made a comercial. to go on TV and look pretty, to get people excited about a game. It worked for me, bnecause i love the story of halo. read all the books (almot done ghosts of onyx). This gets me excited because i love the character and universe.

When the game is doen enough to show it, they will, but the fact of the matter is its proly still about a year from done, meaning if they showed it now it woudl probbaly underwhelm.

Comercials made to be comercials is one thing, fake trailers made to make peopel believe they are in game is another thign entirely.

Get off it.

Metareview - Gears of War (Xbox 360)

@33

36 hours in a soldiers life. the story occurs in a 36 hour period. They didnt say the game was actually 36 hours long.

I for one am greatfull. Having a girl friend a and a job and freelance work to deal with i never get to finish epic games any more (no pun intended).

Is Gears of War as good as it gets?

Oct 26th 2006 5:23PM (Joystiq)
Another little somethign to consider is that acording to what i've read the blu-ray drive in the ps3, while twice as fast as those that will apear in standard blu-ray players (2x) is still slower than the 8x dvd drive in the 360.

So not only can the PS3 not store as much texture info technically, it cant stream it as fast either. Mind you even the base PS3 has a hard drive so all PS3 games can take advantage of pre caching. I wouldnt be suprised if most PS3 games load incredibly slow when u first boot them up but then out perform the 360 on load times from then on.

Either way i look forward to seeing hwo it all plays out.

Anyone else actually remember the congresman that sega put in eternal champions cd?

Ah the good old days when companies actually used their medium to make statments instead of fearing lawsuits. I was wearing an onion around my waist, which was the style at the time...

R.I.P.: Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin

Sep 5th 2006 5:16PM (Joystiq)
A couple points:

1) he was not filming worlds deadliest, he was filming a documenatry about coral reefs for children (with his daughter in mind) on down time from worlds deadliest.

2) he in no way agrivated the sting ray. He happened to swim over it and startled it. It was burried in the sand and he probably didn't even know it was there.

3) he doesnt "wrestle" crocs. Whenever he was diving in a river and "wrestling" a croc, it was to take it out of a dangerous situation (i.e. a shrinking environemnt over run by people) and deliver it to a sanctuary.

4) he isnt a zoologist who got lucky and opened a zoo. His father ran that zoo since he was a child and tought him from the time he was very young all about animals, and to respect and care for them.

Steve loved every animal on this earth (humans too), and would put there lives ahead of his own without a second thought, he risked his life every day to help make people understand how wonderfull animals are so that they woudl want to help protect them. Everything he did was to aid in the protection of animals and the environment. Proceeds from his show, movie, merchandise, game etc... always went to charities. Now I'm sure he wasnt living in a shack but he certainly wasnt taking the millions of dollars he made and buying hummers with gold rims (though he is one of the few celebrities that could probably justify owning one).

People are not "faux" morning, they are genuinly upset. There a few trully good and wonderfull things/people in this world and one of the best known just left us. I had never really thought about it till it happened but Steve's passing hit me suprisngly hard. If your so enbittered by the world that you can't understand why people would be sad that a good man died then you should probably seek profesional help. You may not care as much as some of us do, but that doesn't mean you need to belittle the out pouring of emotion this has caused.

Steve, you where trully one of the good ones and you will be missed.

Dead Rising demo here, Gears demo not coming

Aug 4th 2006 10:40AM (Joystiq)
i dont think the 7 gigs isnt just for BC. there is space partitioned for streaming content as well. While games are not supposed to require the hard drive they are aloud to use it if its available. Also a good amoutn fo that space is filled with shit that comes on the system, like all the icons and wallpapaers and what not that u dont ever use. There are ways of removign alot of it i think, if i recal correctly u can get it down to like 3-5 gigs.
