Warner scheduled to appear at HD DVD press conference at CES

Dec 27th 2007 3:21AM (Engadget HD)

There isn't going to be a "winner" in this race, because it ISN"T A RACE....it is about total SALES and as long as both formats sell enough to make it worth while, eventually EVERYONE will make discs on both Formats(Sony holding out the longest of course) What Studio in their RIGHT MIND is going to say F those 1 million plus HD-DVD owners(who by the way were 100% purchased for movie watching, unlike PS3 Blu-Ray owners) Don't be stupid sheep, this "War" is the best thing a SMART consumer could ever want, it is driving down the cost of BOTH formats players/Discs.I am an HD-DVD supporter, because I think it offers the most bang for the buck and is most consumer friendly(do you know most Blu standalones are ALREADY obsolete junk?.BUT that is NOT to say I HATE Blu-Ray, it is a shame that you "Blu-Boys" can't get some movies on your format of choice, I really wish you could and I'd like to see YOUR exclusives on my format.Than we can be ALL HAPPY...Right?...Right?

The Lockdown: Locked, but not secure (Part 2)

Oct 15th 2007 11:37PM (Engadget)
I agree that short of using expensive locks(either high security tumbler or electronic/Combo)good "Bump" resistance is going to be a hard thing to acchive . One thing you might try is using TWO TOTALLY different Deadbolt Locks, preferably from uncommon Manufacturer's, like a cylinder deadbolt/"Finger" deadbolt combo, that is what I've done on my Apt.The chance of a criminal having "ENTIRE" sets of Bump keys is unlikely, and if he does your dealing with a pro and are screwed anyway.Stay away from the Kwiksets that are SOLD EVERYWHERE cheap, also don't buy "MATCHED PAIRS" of locks, go with separates that have Keys so different you can't put them in the OTHER lock.

Gaming in West Africa: Only 7 years behind

You think it's bad in Senagal, you should see it here in Zimbabewe, I was thinking of getting a 360, but I am not sure my Voltage Adapter will work, and was hoping your readers could help? My main sourse of power is old trunk on blocks with the rear axle hooked up to a belt turning a Dynamo,it works for about six hours a day, but I need most of the power to run the water pump so my village doesn't die of thirst. I am willing to trade and almost new Collecters edition (Machetee damage)for some basic foodstuffs or some sleeping sickness pills.

Mom & Pop plot to screw you out of a PS3... and put food on their table

Mike VGB,
My apoligies, my anger should have been directed at Wakasm ( I somehow thought you owned the same store together?)All I meant to say was you little guys have only one thing going for you and that is customer service and good will, and pulling shit like Ebaying your allotment, isn't a good way to do that, maybe you smaller guys should think about forming a cooperative, independant pharmacies do that to compete with the big guys.It seems you guys are in the same boat as Microsoft and Sony, they don't make money from the console itself either, but on the games.Alot of businesses are like that, McDonalds makes shit off thier 99cent menu, but make a ton on fries and soda.
To all you lazie fair captialist's out there, I hope you all get hit by buses, need immedate medical care and your doctor tells you to sign away everthing you have or you die, and then you can tell me about what a "gun to your head, really is?"

Mike VGB,
Dude you sound like your going to have a fucking Heart Attack, Do you know how to sling Dough? Maybe you should "quit" the Video Game Shop and open a Pizzaera, most likely you will have better profit margins, but it sounds like your just mad and would wind up like that pizzera in a Spike Lee "Joint"
It is dishonest what you guys are doing On EBAY, no one says you have to pick "a lucky few" out of your "MANY" loyal customers, First come, first served...You run out, oh well, I for one would NEVER shop in your Piece of Shit Store!

Kim,
I know you don't want to tell us your "secret" way of aqquiring your large amount of consoles, but based on your Lax ethical standards, it most likely consists of alot of "HAPPY" EB Teenage Men.I have no problem with you getting systems for resale,(as long as its done honestly) but with your attitude, I would be seriously worried that you/ or your family are creating "straw" buyers to raise the price, the fact that you don't post your Ebay Username is an indicator that you think you might be doing something wrong.
As far as the poster, with the hurricane water for $10 a gallon, I so wish you tried that in New Orleans and someone shot you in the face.Lazie Fair Captalism, is not what America needs, we don't need a sitution when a guy walking along a highway to a gas station to pick up gas for his dry car, is gouged 20 bucks for a gallon because "He is willing to pay for it" just as when I am in a store, I hand my money to the cashier, not hold one side, she holds the groceries and on the count of 3 we both let go.

What Sony, Microsoft must do to win in North America

Feb 27th 2006 5:21PM (Joystiq)
I agree that Blu-ray or Hd-Dvd is not going to be the killer next gen format that regular DVD is now, we are moving to systems like TIVO where the format is the Hard Drive and with broadband streaming content, I say good riddance now as long as I am protected from a Hard Drive crash costing me a 1000 dollars in songs, (you need good digital ownership rights) I have no problem D/L MP3's that I own on scratched unreadable original disks, hell I bought personal use of the songs when I bought the CD not rights to the CD "Medium"
