Dec 21st 2006 12:28PM (Joystiq)"Oh, you got a zune."
"Yeah, I won it."
"How is it?"
"It's bigger and heavier than my iPod, but I can listen to radio."
"And the screen looks nice."
"Yeah. No one around here has one though. Do you happen to know if I can put the music from my iPod on it?"
"Well, did you buy it on iTunes or rip it from CD?"
"iTunes"
"Huh... Well, I guess you can burn it to CD and rip it again."
"I was afraid of that."
Hey, I guess for an oversized pocket radio, it's not a bad free gift. :)
Games for Windows Vista: how the new brand & OS will change PC gaming [update 1]
Dec 18th 2006 4:54PM (Joystiq)PC gaming does not nor will ever need a savior. It is exactly because there is very little barrier to entry that there will always be new, neat, amazing, and entertaining titles on the PC. Having this MS authorized games for windows label will only hurt studios that don't want to pony up to MS's extortion.
MS wants another secure revenue stream and this is just another monopoly tactic that won't even be questioned until the smoking remains of another free market lies in the wake of Microsoft's corporate juggernaut.
It'll change PC gaming alright. It'll hem it in, stick it in a cage where the only titles that can be successful have MS's name on the corner of the box. But it's great news for those stock holders.
God I'm so disgusted right now...
Wii-related injury roundup
Dec 17th 2006 12:22AM (Engadget)Yeah, people have accidents. It's amusing but no big deal. I smacked my hand on a shelf playing tennis already, but I wasn't swinging hard enough to do any damage. Everyone had a good laugh tho.
By the way, is it just me or do some engadget editors have no more than a passing acquaintance with the English language? Spurn is to reject or disdain. Spur is to incite or urge. Or is everyone used to it by now / realize complaining is useless?

Dec 15th 2006 4:40PM (Engadget)At 5% efficiency for humans, food to movement, a bigmac (no cheese) is about 8 energizer alkaline batteries.
Don't ask me who eats their bigmacs without cheese, I have no idea.

Dec 15th 2006 3:45PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Nintendo to replace 3.2 million Wii straps [update 1]
Dec 15th 2006 12:22PM (Joystiq)Yes, they're a company and have to make rational business decisions. What I and many people like about Nintendo is that their idea of making money takes a long view and includes customer trust and quality products. Nintendo's majority shareholders are more interested in the company making good money in 10 or 20 years, not cashing out. That has a lot of implications that are good for consumers.
If Sony were in the same position, they'd most certainly be praised as well. People have it in for Sony lately partly because their idea of corporate image is being infallible, or at least looking like it, and an unnecessary recal would uncharacteristic in the eyes of many. That might not be correct, but the internet has been passing around the Sony hate-o-raid for months now. Everyone's take on them is distorted. (The faux sony fanboys just make people angrier, which is most likely their intent. At least the irrational Nintendo fanboys seem to be earnest. )
