New Dead Space details, including (surprise!) sequel possibilities

Jan 16th 2008 8:21PM (Joystiq)
Hey, I love the idea of fighting space zombies as much as the next gamer but, really guys, Isaac (Asimov) (Arthur C.) Clarke? Really? Is he going to have a companion named Buzz Armstrong that helps him fight against the villian of the game Adolf Kahn? Is that really the level of thought that's going into this game? Am I really going to leave a comment that's made up only of questions?

Engadget's relaunch giveaways: Xbox 360 Premium pack number four

Oct 21st 2006 9:40PM (Engadget)
None of my friends currently own an Xbox 360. We're all waiting for a price drop and to see how the other two systems fare. Of course dont let that trick you into thinking I would ever decline the offer of a free game console.

Penny Arcade responds to our "hideous editorial," misses the point [update 1]

Am I mistaken? Was this supposed to be a discussison about what people want when they plop their cold hard earned cash on the counter and walk away with a new system under their arm? Was this was to be a discussion about why people buy what they buy, what they expect from their video game console(s) of choice? An analyses of value itself, a search for outlines to ephemeral concepts?

Now I admit that your initial explanation could have been done a little more concisely but I wonder if, maybe, you haven't received your answer with all of these heated responses and peoples apparent inability to pull themselves out of their camp of choice for a thought experiment.

Then again, maybe I missed the point too. ;-)
I still appreciated the effort Vlad.

Help cure cancer with your PS3

Aug 24th 2006 3:38PM (Joystiq)
Huh, I honestly didn't expect to see something like this appearing on a console, though I'm quite pleased it did. Hopefully MS and nintendo borrow the idea and do something similar. Can you imagine the potential good millions of consoles could do with a program like this?

Considering this appears to be completely voluntary I'm not really sure how people can fault it. Still, fault it they do, and yet right above this post is a post with slightly negative (and really kind of irrelevant) news about the 360 and there are few attacks on it.
I'm not claiming Joystiq is biased, it's the forums posters saying this stuff, it just makes me feel a little sick to see peoples partisanship get the better of them. You don't have to climb a mountain and raise hosannas to Sony but you should admit it's a nice gesture considering all the crap they've put their customers through.

A video walkthrough of the PS3's menu

Bandit-

1: Errr, you're using an article whose title starts with the word "rumor" as your source? That's not really a "fact" then. I'm not saying it's not accurate but I haven't seen any other info to back it up. Actually, if you do have any other information on this topic I would be very interested to see it. I did a little scouring and couldn't find much outside the initial rumors about this that sprouted up around April. Anything from developers would be cool. I trust their word more then any of the 3 console producers
anyway.

2: Ok, aside from that I'm not disagreeing with you. I
think the OSes for ALL the consoles should use as little power as possible. From the various numbers I've seen the 360 seems to be doing a good job at that. Please don't think I'm on Sony's side here.
If it turns out to be true that their OS is as inefficient as it has been claimed I'll be right next to you wagging my finger. That interface using upwards of 20% of the PS3's processing power would be a travesty.

To be honest I'd almost be happier if developers
had full reign over the hardware they were coding for. I'm a gamer at heart and would chose developer control over console maker control any day. Dream a little dream, I guess.

A video walkthrough of the PS3's menu

Aug 20th 2006 8:53PM (Joystiq)
A thought: Snazzy menus with dynamic lighting and lots of shinys are fun and all but do we really want our video game consoles devoting memory and processing power to the menu we use to select a game? Wouldn't those resources be better spent on the games themselves?

Robert I can understand your frustration with this kind of thing but doesn't attacking it with the nitpicky and snippety comments only detract from your own ambitions to be a legitimate source of video game news?
This list does deserve rebuttal (though I actually agree with her on one or two points) but not in the form of fanboy like negation.
If you want to be taken seriously yourself maybe you should try elevating your own level of discourse.

If that happened these comment sections would shrink to a tenth of their size. Imagine all the space!

The ultimate Mac spoof: PS3 vs Wii

Aug 11th 2006 11:00AM (Joystiq)
Sheesh.
And people wonder why video gamers have a reputation for being horny 14 year old boys and emotionally stunted 30-somethings.

At least we've discovered there's a niche market for porn that personifies video game consoles as low self-esteem, eager to please, self-lobotomized, bleach blond dim bulbs.

I'm going to take ..'s advice and go outside.
