Maxthon browser for Android now available -- and it's good

Dec 19th 2010 7:32PM (Download Squad)
I am really beginning to hate Android now. Another app that can't be found on the marketplace. I'm using an HTC Wildfire. The other option is to create an App Brain account which I don't want to do - this prompts for my google account which seems a bit stupid to me as this whole platform is google.

The last app I installed, Epistle, had this problem and the developer had to tweak something so that it would show up. Presumably this is the case here? Or maybe not. Sometimes I wish I had an iphone if only for the certainty that most if not all apps would work on the damn thing.

Rumor: MS to make up for Xbox Live outage

Jan 2nd 2008 10:52AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Adding time on will be unlikely; that would set an unwelcome precedent for Live given that there's no service level agreement in place. Also they have factored in when the Live income comes in and delaying that is not attractive.
If they drop 100 points on each user I would say we've been very lucky.

Rumor: MS to make up for Xbox Live outage

Jan 2nd 2008 10:33AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'd bet heavily that there's been much grief and strife within the Live team while this has been happening but I wonder if the root of these problems is down to how Live is funded?
I imagine MS don't want to provide it at a loss and they might be top-slicing those subs before they form Live's budget. And if you find it tough meeting that budget then resources might be spread out too thinly.

It wouldn't be the first time that the bean-counters screw things up and crazy things have been known to happen within Redmond.

No more dev blogging for Jeff Minter

Nov 26th 2007 1:08PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'm a fan of Jeff's work having grown up with 8 and 16 bit machines. Anyone who's played those games know that he cares passionately about making fun, quirky shooters. Personally I think he should have been a bit more thick-skinned about the SG experience and not worn his heart on his sleeve quite so intensely. I posted some thoughts about what could be learned along with others and I'm disappointed he pulled those comments.

Nevertheless I went back to SG a few days ago and I have to say the visuals are nowhere near as impenetrable as many have claimed. If players actually use their eyes and *focus* everything is there to be seen. And it is a beautiful, pulsating game with a clever redesign of Tempest that makes me wonder why it wasn't like that from day one. Not for everyone of course, but then neither is say, Halo 3.

And oddly after playing alot of GHIII my SG performance improved a lot...

Web site fights Adblock by blocking Firefox

So he blocks the majority of Firefox users *without* Adblock? Yeah, that makes sense. Then again he does believe in Adam and Eve.

Win a Halo 3 beta code from X3F! [update 2]

Having had a crappy ol' day in London town I really wanted the beta to unwind. May the gods of chance shine on me - and curse Crackdown!

Double Dragon kicks XBLA next week?

May 4th 2007 12:46PM (Joystiq Xbox)
No, no, no!!

Well yes if that's your sort of thing.

But really where is Sensible Soccer? And I hope serious work on certifying Space Giraffe is being made.

A lot of games are now appearing on XBLA but so many are below-par rehashed oldies or joyless PopCap style efforts that I almost start to despair.

Video: Too Human lives!

Apr 18th 2007 8:09PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Boy, they really are overcompensating for the first wave of bad vibes.

Constant quotes like "...trying to get a true convergence in alot of the philosophies that we've been thinking about for Too Human since we started started thinking about it so long ago."

What on earth does that mean?

I'd be amazed if this wasn't anything other than a glammed up hack and slash experience.

I feel sorry for them because hyping the game without being particularly specific means this game has got to be more than just a "solid experience" to sell strongly.
