@Fugaku It's also the reason why BN6 is missing HALF THE UNDERNET

@Courtney Litigation is expensive. If a company offers a settlement under agreeable terms, you take it, even if you could technically win in court.

Fake Pokemon Yellow ends up on iOS App Store

@Derp Sandwich Youtube has a similar policy, where copyright holders can specify videos for automatic removal by content similarity metrics. It's an absolute and complete disaster.

Plus, what about game guide apps?

@tendoboy1984 Hey! That's how we got the Nintendo-produced translations of MOTHER 1 (aka EB0)

Reuters: Microsoft's TV subscription plans 'on hold'

@psyXcho Cable companies, movie theatres, and TicketMaster are essentially bill collectors for media companies. Hence they don't actually make much money at all from their main product. That's why movie theatres are essentially overpriced fast food places and TicketMaster charges BS fees. And why your cable company sells you internet and phone services in bundled services - it's a much higher profit margin then their primary product.

This won't stop simply because media companies need more money to produce more crap. It won't stop until piracy is legal, which will depress the absolutely outrageous prices of media content. And I'm not exactly sure if anybody here actually wants that.

iMame app pulled from iOS App Store after a few short days of freedom

Dec 28th 2011 1:10AM (Joystiq)
@Vidaluko You don't even have to look at illicit use of ROMs. Just the fact that you could load your own ROMs makes it a violation of the iOS agreement because you could write code to run on the emulator without being a licensed iPhone developer. In fact, this thing would have been less of a violation of the iOS rules if it only allowed you to play built-in, unlicensed MAME ROMs.

iOS is a really restrictive platform and people don't notice it as much because Apple let up on their most egregrious things (like trying to force everyone to program stuff in C to kill the headwind of Flash CS5). It's still restrictive for anything that isn't a single-purpose, self-contained workflow that does not need to interact with other applications or rely on long term data storage. It's still a freedom-hating platform, they just backed off enough for people to forget the days of banning Twitter clients because the trending topic had a curse word in it.

Minicraft 2 in the works and needs a better name, Notch reveals

Dec 27th 2011 1:36AM (Joystiq)
@Derppy Minicraft is a top-down 2D minecraft, Terraria is a sidescrolling 2D minecraft. Fundamentally, they're different kinds of games.

CD Projekt demands Witcher 2 pirates pay up, '100% sure' it's targeting properly

@ComedyInK But when the music industry did it we verbally crucified them over it. Now suddently just because a good developer is suing random people who may or may not be pirates they get a pass? It's the same damn method the music industry is using to shakedown people.

Play Bastion in your Chrome browser right now

Dec 12th 2011 4:03AM (Joystiq)
@penubag Because only Chrome and Chrome-derived browsers support NaCL (native client) tech so far. It's an open spec with a FOSS implementation, so Firefox could definitely run this when they feel like adding NaCL to their browser.
