Final Fantasy XIII interview makes us want it ASAP - as if we didn't before
May 31st 2007 2:05PM (Joystiq Playstation)Something can't be said to Mario and Master CHief, eh? :)"
Only problem with that is the fact that excluding the Final Fantasy Title, as well as the re-occuring themes and items, it's ridiculous to call the FF games a series.
Re-name each title, and you have games that in no way are a series in the traditional sense. More like the various RPG's in the 90's that Square and Enix and Atlus would sneak references to past games in.
Final Fantasy is just a linear progression more akin to trial and error than a traditional series like Halo, with a persistant state universe, a progression of the world through titles, and a continued evolution while holding the title true to it's roots.
Due to Final Fantasy's lack of persistent worlds between games SquarEnix gets to try radically different things between games. That's why they ran into trouble making X-2, as they were enacting a rather large shift in gameplay and style onto something already estanblished, but they failed to do so with a smooth transition.
Getting deep on Dead Rising
May 23rd 2007 12:09AM (Joystiq)I just really couldn't stand not being able to save everyone. They should die because I fail. Not because it's part of the game.
Getting deep on Dead Rising
May 23rd 2007 12:07AM (Joystiq)Problem was, they relied on out-dated gaming concepts to act as a support when none was needed.
The Mission system they used, as well as the time limits they put in place are obsolete for a very good reason. They're not fun on a console.
If they simply had opted to allow for more freedom ala GTA, with Plot/Time progression done through "Events" rather than a dedicated clock that always screws you, Dead Rising would have been perfect.
I just always feel like instead of being rewarded for exploring and discovering cool things, I'm being punished for not following their crappy structured mission and plot.

Apr 30th 2007 12:02PM (Joystiq)Now I can get a quieter DVD drive, a nice big HHD, AND 65mm chips.
It's going to be painful waiting for them all Summer while my friends play Rainbow 6, GoW, and the Halo 3 Beta, but I think I'll survive.... WHY DO YOU HAVE TO COME OUT IN THE FALL!?

Apr 16th 2007 2:40PM (Joystiq)The voice acting (excluding 2 cases) is incredible, and they really get the feel of the series just right.
Sadly the current Mac PPC version cannot play online.
Confessions of ... a video game store customer
Apr 6th 2007 1:08AM (Joystiq)1) These stores start pitching that you need to Pre-Order Halo 3 WHEN THE RELEASE DATE HASN'T EVEN BEEN CONFIRMED!! Why would I give them my money for a product that I have no idea when I will get? That's just stupid and irresponsible.
The Grand Theft Auto IV trailer
Mar 29th 2007 9:07PM (Joystiq)I think that trailer is exceptionally well done, and it gives me a great "Wow" factor the way it syncs with the music all while keeping you guessing as to where it's taking place, until it reveals all in a moment of revelation. And the choice to go with a Czech/ Russian is really hardcore. I say Bravo Rockstar. Bravo.
I didn't buy Vice City or San Andrea's. I'm definitely getting this.
