ESRB seeks to rate game trailers [update]

Jun 25th 2007 8:11PM (Joystiq)
Does not compute.

Unless I'm mistaken, developers don't actually have to have their games rated, they only do it so retailers will sell it. For trailers, I really doubt websites are going to refuse to host trailers that aren't rated, so how can they possibly enforce this?

Joystiq's video analysis of the Halo 3 Beta leak

Seems to be a 30 second timer on the bubble shield. From about 3:30 to 4 minutes into the video, he picks up a bubble shield, and right as he scopes (30 seconds after picking it up) it disappears.

Red Octane says two Xbox guitar models 'defective'

I have the exact same thing as Joystiq, a 95055 box, with a 95065 sticker on it, and have so far had no problems: whammy bar and star power are both plenty responsive.

Proposed legislation: ESRB must complete every game

He seems to have forgotten that the ESRB is not in any way connected to the government, and can therefore not be regulated by the government.

Ubisoft "accidentally" leaks tons of assets

Some of the stuff in there is amazing. The renders and models for far cry 2 are really cool, and the concept art for SC 5 is very impressive. I wish I could see more concept art for games, because this stuff is really cool.

Video demo of $5 iPod games

I bought Tetris, and after some initial confusion and trouble, I really like the controls. Occasionally my finger will brush the scroll wheel and the block will go off of where I wanted it, but overall definitely a satisfying experience.

The music seemed like complete shit though, kind of like a techno remixed 10 second sample of the original theme that just loops, but you can play your own music while playing Tetris and still get the sound effects.

Overall I think it was worth it, though 5 bucks is fairly steep.

Joyswag: A Castle Crashers tee for your thoughts ... the revenge! [update 1]

Definitely Golden Axe, although for the why, it seems like probably just because it was the first one I ever played. As terrible a reason as that is.

Joyswag: A Castle Crashers tee for your thoughts

Sep 10th 2006 5:43PM (Joystiq)
I recognize the graphical style from Alien Hominid, and once again I love it. It's so cartoony and clean, yet violent at the same time. The game itself looks like it will be a great party game or general stress-reliever.

Now, to stop kissing ass for one second, I do see one possible problem. Judging from what I saw, this game may suffer from the same problem that Geometry wars does, where the screen gets so cluttered with units and other crap popping up that your character gets lost and you can't really tell what's going on. That said, that doesn't look to be a huge problem, and probably won't make Castle Crashers any less addicting.

All in all, Castle Crashers is shaping up to be a damn good $10ish investment.
