Virtually Overlooked: Friday the 13th

Nov 1st 2007 9:26PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
You forgot the most potent of all Friday the 13th weapons! The most glorious of all useful yet not at all useful weapons of any game in the history of gaming kind!

I speak, of course, of the sweater. You couldn't hurt Jason, and Jason couldn't hurt you. You'd both stand in a cabin like a pair of jackasses.

Virtually Overlooked: Ultraman

Oct 19th 2007 10:04AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This is one game I've never forgotten, as it was the first game I owned which was able to truly piss me off.
The finishing move, inspired by the second Bald Bull encounter from Mike Tyson's Punch Out (Mr. Dream my ass,) caused me many a time to slam the controller on the floor and scream "THAT'S CHEATING!" at a machine which, I know now, couldn't actually hear me.

If they have to remake something ....

1. Chrono Trigger

2. Maniac Mansion (just because of the touch screen.)

Yo mama so cheap, you can buy her at Play Asia for $14.90

From what I've read, the Japanese doesn't really interfere with being able to enjoy the game. If you run into some sort of problem, though, skimming through an online translation helps out a lot.

Thanks for the heads up on the discount, by the way! I just put in my order. Glad I held off on buying it.

Hype isn't everything: MP3 punks down BioShock

Sep 6th 2007 2:02PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I have to admit that I haven't been able to play Corruption enough to give a decent enough comparison.

Bioshock is an incredible game and is definitely front runner for the best game of 2007. Graphics aside, the fact that there's countless different ways to play the game (run and gun v well planned strategies,) make it incredibly immersive.

MP3:C, though, makes you work more. Where Bioshock had a button you could hit that says "you should go here now," The Metroid series has never been one to coddle a player. There aren't any regrowth tanks every ten feet in Metroid games. You blow past a save spot and you're screwed.

I'll be interested in seeing how quickly I want to turn around and play Corruption again after I've beaten it. With Bioshock I couldn't wait to give it another go.

As far as sales go, though, I'm more interested to see which one sells more in the long run.

Wii Warm Up: Inventory management

I keep all of my non VC content on the first page, then organize by system starting on the second page.

Wii Warm Up: Replacements

Sep 4th 2007 9:34AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I've had games freeze up on a few occasions. Actually, exactly three times. I couldn't get to the Wii menu and had to hit the power button. Three times in almost 10 months? Not bad at all IMO. :)

Those "new and improved 2nd gen" remote straps seem to be holding up, but it's not like the original ones were giving out.

Sonic Riders: Zero Style

Aug 31st 2007 11:30AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Secret Rings incinerated any faith I had that the Sonic franchise could be saved (it should also be noted, after being incinerated, my faith tried to extinguish itself by jumping into some water where it was immediately electrocuted.)

I agree that a massive boycott of all things Sonic should be instituted until Sega releases a hedgehog game truly worth playing.

TimeShift demo sneaks onto XBLM

Aug 31st 2007 10:10AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I was able to play through the demo a couple of times and I don't think the time shift is difficult at all.
Don't get me wrong, the first time through I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but the second time I was able to use it to full effect and it really is great. There are little things added in that really make it worth mastering. Being able to use the timeshifting to your advantage is key. In the room with all of the enemies, you can freeze time, steal someone's gun, and run behind them. When the freeze ends, the guy with the missing gun looks down at his hands and the other enemies are still waiting for you to come out of cover.

I do agree the gun stealing and activating the turret can be frustrating, especially since you have a limited time to take someones gun.

I'll wait to see what reviews say about gameplay length before I decide whether this will be a rental or a buy.
