Gartner and IDC agree: the Android invasion's accelerating around the world

@Makali

dont forget your phone can turn into a car-oriented computer with the car dock, or a multimedia oriented device with a dock

I cant believe ppl even still look at iphones.. i mean before android 2.0 it made sense, but now your an idiot if you bypass android

I dont get why ppl keep bringing up buy one get one as it is an unfair comparison.. first off it is buy one smartphone get any smartphone free meaning they arent required to get an android phone, second off the second user has to pay for the service of the phone, how are they any different than somene who bought their phone outright...

also Im sick of ppl saying oh iphone is one phone android is multiple so it isnt a fair comparison... that is the genius of android.. let google do what they are best at, software, and leave phone manufactures to do what they are best at, making phones.. put them togethr and you have a bulletproof phone

fragmentation only occured because android was so young and was continually adding features. The groundwork major features are now all here in android 2.2 along with the fact that android 2.2 can update system pieces individually bypassing carriers will end fragmentation... also android updates will occur once every year starting with android 3.0 and these updates will be mainly cosmetic

any relevant android phone (excluding the streak which pisses me off) is up to android 2.1 so the only ppl bringing up this issue are the people trying to criticize android on anything they can.. I had an original droid now an X so i've never been below 2.0 but I can say fragmentation has ever affected me at all... I'm missing out on 2.2 features, but in the app world I have been able to download anything I want successfully

Chrome to Phone now available in Android Market

Aug 12th 2010 4:54PM (Engadget)
one by one my friends with iphones are realizing how much they are missing by not joining the android revolution. Now that we are up to andriod 2.1/2.2 they no longer argue about featureset of iphoneos/android beacuse they know they are identical. But with such cool innovations such as the car docks that turn your phone into a car-centered computer, or a multimedia dock that gives you everything you would want in a bedside multimedia dock, or this, chrome to phone they are finally starting to make the switch. While i don't know anyone who has an iphone4 I have 3 friends with 3gs that just bought captivates and are completely dumbfounded on how misinformed they were. All three had similar stories of walking into ATT for their upgrade and asking about android and being torn down almost forced into getting a iphone. If it wasn't for me informing them about android they would still be brainwashed apple owners. I am convinced there are even as many iphones being sold as there are now with android being mature because of all these misconceptions that people tell them. Unless you are technology illiterate you would be an idiot to get a locked down completely controlled iphone over a high end android phone.. Dont give me that crap "iphones are easier" anything that has 3 basic functions is easier, android can do anything you want it to, so obviously there is more to learn, but if you want to do 3 basic functions like iphone you still have that option

ps... if you have to plug your phone into your computer to sync it then you are living in a 10 year old palm pilot world (im talking to you apple fanboys)... join the cloud, it is incredible to swap phones or factory reset and have all of your emails, email settings, contacts, favorites, wifi networks/passwords, purchased apps, browsing settings available simply by logging into your google account

iPhone 4 launch day in Canada: the experience

@stockpile

your probably right.. thousands of youtube videos of people replicating the issue.. hundreds of blogs confirming the issue including the one your reading now, consumer reports findings, the class action lawsuit, apple coming out and finally admitting it giving away free cases to fix the problem, and the common sense that every cell phone antenna ever has been encased in plastic because of the risk of bridging the antenna losing signal if touched by a bare hand are all a bunch of BS

jesus christ apple could have sold itouches and labeled them as iphones and apple fanboys would still say they have no problems making or receiving calls.. what the hell else proof do you need

were talking about phones not mp3 players so I think it is a very valid comparison

@Master of the Intangible

your an idiot, malware is already creeping to OSX.. give it 2 years and there will be no difference between security on PC and MAC.. i'd be worried if i had a mac because of apple being as ignorant as they are aren't doing a single thing to prepare for it and the antiviruses that are available on OSX are jokes now

I've been in IT for 10 years

Motorola turns Droid X's source code loose -- some of it, anyhow

Aug 2nd 2010 4:52PM (Engadget Mobile)
its amazing how quick the apple fanboys stfu about the X blowing up if u attempted to root it after it was announced the X was rooted haha.. the best part was motorola officially came out even before it was rooted and laughed at the idea that the phone would purposely brick itself, yet fanboys wouldn't let it go
