was really not impressed by the first one, though I played only for a limited time the graphics alone were not enough to make it a purchase.

may pick this one up though :)

New York Times looks under cardboard box over MGS storyline

Jun 23rd 2008 4:24AM (Joystiq Playstation)
hey i like mgs4, i like my ps3, i even didn't mind the cutscenes so much, and normally i'm very impatient with cutscenes. but i agree that they are not the native language of games, they're a borrowed language of cinema. i do appreciate what kojima et al are doing but i don't want to have that all the time at all. playing through mgs4 again and just find myself pressing skip constantly.

the natural language of games is playing, and that's where i like my stories to be told - with controller in hand, playing an active part in the story.

"We've had cutscenes and animations in games since the beginning.
In fact they are intrinsic to most any game fondly remembered. "

i have to disagree. i remember gameplay moments far better than cutscenes (going back twenty years too). take gtaIV for example. did not care for the cutscenes one bit. had some great moments actually playing the game though.

i think the nonlinearity of story is the special something that games have over film & novels, and it's something that should be taken advantage of more.

Wii Warm Up: WiiWare and VC vs. XBLA vs. PSN

Jun 15th 2008 11:53PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
i don't know about this "poor organization"

i have a ps3 as well and it's really quite difficult to do a simply search for something on the PSN store. i find searching the VC much easier. we'll see how wiiware fares when more games are released.

anyway, i'm going to base my judgement on availability of games that i want to play, so the wii wins my download moneys easily. in fact, for giving me sin & punishment it wins hands down for the rest of the generation. (& i don't mind paying extra for it given the extra localisation work)

thanks wii :)

oh obligatory storage solution, yeah i guess i'd like one of those thanks! or i'll have to start removing zeldas, and they look so pretty lined up in the channels..

Crikey, this is a new Channel this is!

interested in the DS demos and just to see in general what it is, but i had a hard enough time making room for MLAAK and Lost Winds that i now only have about 3 blocks free.

there is no way i'm getting rid of those two or my zeldas. i guess it's time to go, mario64.

Wii Warm Up: Are you down with EarthBound?

May 13th 2008 5:55AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
as an aussie i had never heard about earthbound until reading about the mother3 release in japan. looks like i game i would enjoy, definitely would buy for virtual console. seeing releases of rare games like this (and earlier sin&punishment) is what i love best about the vc.
