Xbox 360 has biggest non-holiday month ever

Mar 10th 2011 10:42PM (Joystiq)
@A Sandwich

Xbox has many other uses and Ps3 also not just playing games. Xbox with AT&T uverse support. Streaming of cable stations with a tv tuner and dvr support. Live has Espn, Last fm, zune marketplace, twitter, facebook, MsNbc, Netflix, Kinect support. Many more uses for both ps3 and xbox. And with iptv codename orapa support xbox will just get better and better as it ages well. They are very similar but different and attract different people now. My main usage of xbox (games being 2nd) is Media Center using my computers tv tuner do stream live channels and use a 1tb drive to record my tv shows, works like a dream.

Windows Phone 7 in-depth preview

Its funny to hear people quickly hate,,"ohh its bland with black spaces and blue squares and blah blah blah." LOL funny how they failed to realize this is still under production and will keep being into production. Also those blue squares are called placeholders, they are not ready to release the full thing, alot of this is also just in place. That is part of the production process. Lets look back at Andriod and lets see.. First thing i touched a G1 i said .. god what a piece of dooky. (compare to Iphone) Software was bad and all was ugly and not usefull at all. FWD to today after countles of updates. We now have Andriod 2.1 and when running on a 1ghz phone its a very nice fast OS which has nice things to it. EVO is my favorite phone but lets face it barely until now can Andriod really compete with Iphone. Soon we will get WP7 and from the looks of it, its way ahead of the G1 was back when it launched. See what time did to the Andriod it made it great. So now think what wp7 will be after just a few updates? And with every phone having a 1ghz or better it will make things fly nice.
For those not liking the UI well two things.. First try the Zune HD interface and you will understand why they did this and how things work beautiful. 2nd icons to me are starting to get a bit old now. Andriod and Iphone are great and Icons work well with how they implement things. But lets face it not everyphone OS has to be the same.. Thus i like to try different desings to see how it will work and from my experience with a Zune HD , i have good confidence they will be fine. The future of programing is programing straight to the graphics unit and i see this UI being just a start to things to come.

'Xbox Live Games' to plug Windows Mobile into Xbox ecosystem at last? Wouldn't that make too much sense?

Taking your anology of your friends and % numbers one would guess that blackberry would be dying and everyone and their mom would have one. The Reality is last quarter blackbery sold over 8mil and Iphones sold 7 mil. With NOKIAS selling over 21mil. You do know that nokias have over 45% of the worlds smartphone market, not IPHONE. But then again your world is only in your 20 or so friends.
With that being said, My next phone will be the HTC HD2.

well for those who dont know or dont follow Media Center. Media Center 7 will allow for H264 + ac3 in m2ts format, and if you want MKV support visit http://labs.divx.com/mkvwin7preview#download
for a tech preview to add support for MKV in Media Center 7.. Media center 7 will have native mpg-2, mov, m2ts, avi/xvid, h.264, wmv hd, ..
Streaming to the 360 in m2ts works great from what i hear it supports 4.1 profile in bitrates of up to 15mbps in ac3 audio. If you ripped them at over 20mbps they might skip every other 5 min. I am currently starting to back up my BR and HDDVDs all in mkv at those bit rates. For those who dont or havent use media center, with out a TV tuner attached to it, you will never know how great Media Center and with Media Center 7 it might just become the easiest and best looking DVR software on the market going toe to toe with a TIVO software. + added streaming support should make it better than a TIVO now.

Hands-on: Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm and Zune Marketplace on Xbox 360

Oct 6th 2009 11:07PM (Joystiq)
Twitter.. no.. Facebook my wife will like it. Last FM I will like it.. In this preview he said who will spend hours on the xbox playing music.. Of course i dont wanna spend hours sending audio to my ZONE 2 speakers outside in my back yard.. While I play poker and drink in the back. Of course i dont wanna put Last FM to my main speakers in the living room when my wife is gone so therefore i can blast the crap out of it. NAH no one wants to spend hours on the xbox playing music.. lol
By the way for those of you who dont know the xbox does support a usb keyboard. I've been using a wireless USB keyboard for more than two years to type. so for those people who didnt know. Yes you can use a USB keyboard to type.

Sep 29th 2009 7:53PM (Engadget)

One helluva stunt: Trials HD sells 300K on XBLA

I bought this for my son (and for me too), and when we played the demo man we had so much fun. Just making your guy crash and watching him explode is fun.
After buying the game. WOW some of those levels are pretty tricky, but of course my son beats me all the time. I can't seem to pass the one with the two balls and you have to jump from one to the other. I love the one you get to ride inside the ball though.

Ceton is set to take over the CableCARD PC tuner market

Sep 11th 2009 9:21PM (Engadget HD)
I for one.. been wanting this solution for over 2 years now. I currently have a cable box and a ota antenna on a ati 650pcie combo tuner. I like it but I need more HD content. With this baby, i will then buy me a new computer (the kids can get my current one) and good bye to the cable box and ati 650 tuner. I will also save more money cause i will get rid of my main living 8300 SA dvr. So in theory i would save on two cable boxes one of them dvr and just renting a Mcard. I should save around 6x2(cable boxes)=12 +15(dvr service)+ taxes. So close to 30$ a month. So if i can buy it for 300$ for 4 tuners, i would buy it in a heart beat. Even at 400$ i would also get it. It will pay itself in 1 year.

How to install a CableCARD tuner in your DIY Media Center

May 15th 2009 11:42PM (Engadget HD)
This is my current setup. I have a AMD 8450 Triple core(low end). 4gb with vista premium and a 1.5tb external drive for dvd rips and recording tv, and any other video stuff i get.
I have a ati 650 card attached with composites a cable box, a OTA antenna for my local HD. And a cheap little wire from my receiver i found so I can get FM that I connect to my analog part of my tuner (coax). All work well with streaming to my 360. When i record on my cable box I, have the local attenna free or i just watch a previous recorded show. To change channels through my 360 I got (from ebay) a MS IR receiver that I connect to the cable box and it changes channels like that. The OTA and FM well they are direct coax connects and no IR is needed. I have about maybe 30hours of HD and about 60 of SD and I think i have only used 350gb last time I checked. I stream to my sons room all his sponge and cartoons and I stream live tv to my bedroom and i can still use my PC with no hick up. Each stream takes around 6-9%cpu power with a 1gb lan. + I get media streaming, of my music, dvd mpgs and videos, FM and what I love is how easy it is to find movies, You can search for movies on NOW, NEXT or Later all with there Pictures and info, I love how I can just look at the sports now or later or by day or how you can get detail info on and even videos on Todays finished games along with current scores. Those are just a few things you get when you have it hooked up with a TV service. For those of you hating MC just havent really used it.
This Cable card setup is something i wanted for a long time but no way in hell i would of bought a new computer just for that. Now with this hack I may now want to find a Cable card from ebay or somewhere just to try this out. Great news.
Ceton corp is also making a cable card with up to 6hd streams with a SINGLE card
http://www.cetoncorp.com/ProductsVista.php
But I have a feeling it will be bundle only with New PCs. (bummer)
I also read a while back that directv is also working on a directv with card tuner for MCE. I bet alot of new cards will be more driven to when Windows 7 launches. For now atleast we can get a this hack for HBO hd and other premiums HD we cant get through QAM or OTA hook ups.
