DS Daily: How did you get started?

Feb 23rd 2007 10:24AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Arcade games are where I started. My first game was the original Rampage when I was about 4. My parents gave me a NES for Christmas, 1988, and I've been gaming ever since.

Video: C&C3 brings in the talent

Feb 21st 2007 1:23PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'm torn about whether or not to buy this. On the one hand, I'm a huge C&C fan, and have played ever iteration since its initial DOS release. On the other hand, it's EA. I really don't like EA.

Perhaps I'll pick up a used copy of the game, that way I'm not directly paying EA a dime.

DS Daily: Technical difficulties

Feb 12th 2007 9:29AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My fiance's white DS Lite has a cracked hinge, but we haven't bothered to send it in for repair since it hasn't affected anything. My black DS Lite is, as far as I can tell, defect free at the moment.

Run WoW, Steam games on Linux

Jan 29th 2007 12:39PM (Joystiq)
This does not mean that you can run WoW on your PS3. CrossOver Linux REQUIRES an x86 architecture, and the PS3 is definitely not x86.

From CodeWeavers CrossOver Linux requirements:
# x86 compatible PC system, 200 MHz or higher
(400 MHz+ recommended for QuickTime)
# Linux x86 distribution

Make Bill happy, run Windows on your PlayStation 3

Jan 19th 2007 1:50PM (Joystiq)
@Evan:

Everything I've read states that Linux on the PS3 does not have access to the SPE's, but only the PPC processor (a PPE). That will likely prevent it from surpassing today's increasingly standard dual-core CPU's used in PC's.

The only benchmark I've seen rated the PS3 (running Linux) at about the same performance as a low end G5 processor.

Make Bill happy, run Windows on your PlayStation 3

@Massive Raaacccceeer:

"So i install it and was so excited and let down that for all the things linux is capable of there was nothing to do once i installed"

You mean nothing other than have a fully functioning computer hooked up to your TV? Linux is an operating system, not an entertainment device. Windows and OSX aren't too entertaining on their own, either.

"its a good thing Sony invented an OS though hopefully itll compete with Apple OS X and XP/Vista"

Are you still talking about Linux? Sony didn't invent that.

Left 4 Dead: co-op zombie slaying action [update 2]

Jan 12th 2007 3:30PM (Joystiq Xbox)
"... an incredibly virulent strain of rabies has overtaken the general populace."

I once heard a biology professor liken the "virus" that turns people into zombies in movies to an airborne strain of rabies. I guess he wasn't the only person to notice the similarities.
