Xbox 360 leads PS3 in Europe by 1 million units

Dec 16th 2008 7:46PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I know you're a hardcore gamer, and I know you own both consoles Fenix, so I'm putting the question to you:

If you could only afford one of the systems, Xbox 360, or Playstation 3, which would you choose?

You seem to know your stuff, and I've been seriously deliberating just selling my PS3 and picking up a Pro 360 so I can game online with my college buddies (none of whom own a PS3). I love gaming, but I can't really justify owning more than one of these systems at a time (both because I don't make much, and I still have to get good grades).

Thanks!

They should call the current ones "Create" packs, and the ones with levels "Play" packs. It would be more intuitive and would be consistent with the scheme they've already built for the game.

Well aren't you a trendsetter? Will you be having your brave latte java cappuciniato with soymilk as well?

By the way, you might refrain from calling people who make minor spelling mistakes douches until you learn that sentences don't start with conjunctions.

@ Vegeta:

It's called IDLE SPECULATION. If I want to meditate on the reasons for some excellent games underperforming I had damned well better be able to do it on a videogame comment board without fucking douchebags saying they want to kick my ass. What the fuck is your problem?

I think slow controls just means it'll control like Gears of War as a first person shooter. Yes, Gears of War has slow controls. Not that it's a bad thing, it adds to the bulky, heavy feel of the combat and makes it have more punch.

If you can't keep your hands steady playing a videogame just rest them in your lap, problem solved.

Whining about headshots, seriously? Have you played any first person shooters in the last decade?

Behold the PS3: a 'movie downloading machine'

Dec 16th 2008 4:30PM (Joystiq)
Marty has a point, but has anyone seen the Xbox 360 ads for Netflix? They feature a creepy girl with a creepy smile as the camera swoops around to the back to find out there's a creepy diorama of a couple watching a movie in her head.

Given that Microsoft didn't really say too much about the service explicitly in their ad, Sony's commercial is much more informative. To the average consumer, people will associate the PS3 with a "movie downloading machine" and the Xbox 360 with a crazy drooling chick.

This isn't fanboyism, this is simple marketing common sense. It doesn't matter who has the features, what matters is how they're promoted. If Sony has an inferior download service, but promotes it better than Microsoft's admittedly superior one, people will associate movie downloading with the PS3 more. I'm just curious how long it will take until Microsoft makes a more informative advertisement in response to this.

Well maybe the new "hardcore" is casual hardcore. Call of Duty and Halo are pretty socially acceptable and easy to pick up and play, whereas Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and LBP will get you funny looks. Now that Activision is releasing sequels on a yearly (or sub-yearly) basis, fps and guitar games are the new sports games maybe?

I think game companies have been looking for the casual market for years, and now that they've done it, the hardcore market is suffering.
