Ugh...are people really so lonely they need to listen to other people yak in their living rooms?

Sorry, voice chat is so useless IMHO - I don't need to hear someone smack talk because I just pwn'd them in a game.

This was the natural way to go about it.

People talk about Nintendo redesigns on portables and think the same would work for Wii - it wouldn't, just like many, many people would be pissed if there was a "Wii Remote 2" that makes our existing remotes obsolete. Players just wouldn't put up with it - after investing $100's in existing accessories, and the fact that you STILL can't just walk into most stores and buy a Wii - means that they need to be very careful with this customer base.

While I'm not terribly pleased about MORE white plastic stuff clogging around my house (really need to find a better way to house this stuff), and of course we need more details to make a true judgement (cost, compatibility - i.e. will games we already have get better), this is the kind of solution we can expect - it will be a long time before any form of "Wii 2" comes out (though I *do* expect a redesigned remote to follow this one with the nub included).

Each time some idiot at Sony says something like this, I think, "Wow, nothing would shock me" then they go ahead and do it again.

Sony knows all about niche - that's why you can still find MiniDiscs for sale in stores, ROFL. Although some of their products are quality, it's no mystery that Sony overall is a mess of a company on so many levels. That this guy's supposed "ultimate" gaming machine of the PS3 is so weak on sales they need to bash the #1 console, it says a lot.

Seriously, someone needs to give this guy a dictionary - a niche is a small side thing that only appeals to a small segment of people, which is pretty much the textbook definition of the PS3. Sony and the PS3 did nothing to bring more players into games, just catered to the dwindling number of "hardcore" players who are satisfied as long as the pictures get more pretty and could give a crap about gameplay and innvoation.

Uh, yeah, if one lives in a box where the only way to "push" games is to make the graphics more photo-realistic, then I see his point.

It's this old-school thinking by developers like him that is exactly why the Wii is outselling all other consoles. I have nothing against PS3 and XBOX360, but I have nothing for them either - I haven't bought either one because I have yet to find that "killer app" game that will lead me to invest $500 in the game and the console just to play it. It's all the same mindless FPS crap I can play on my PC, and I much prefer those with a keyboard and mouse anyway.

Very apropos. Learn what customers want to play (and stop selling to the shrinking minority that is happy as long as the masculine details of their avatars get even more mansexy the more "realistic" they become), and then Developers like this can start to learn how they can function in the NEW video game business.

LOL I wish I had more time to read the XBOX360/PS3 fanboy wars, but I'm too busy actually playing my Wii. :)

$400, $600, it's all ridiculously too much for a console with one controller and no games. Just one extra controller and one lonely game is gonna set you back another $100 at least before you even go out the door.

NORMAL PEOPLE WILL NOT PAY THAT MUCH FOR A GAME CONSOLE. Sony is learning that the hard way.
