The games and consoles actually cost more than in the States in most European countries if you do the conversion. A lot more in some cases. And add to that that the average person has far less disposable income than here in the states. None of it really justifies stealing, but explanation for why it happens is obvious.

I disagree. Both Sony and Nintendo have dabbled in online before. Neither did particularly well. While Sony seems to have learned some from its PS2 online experience and have copied a bunch of useful features from Xbox Live, they are still miles behind. I would also say that they will never quite catch up because the implementation is left open to each devloper. The reason why Xbox Live is so successful is primarily because of the great tools and standards provided by MS.
