Report: Capcom sees 'no distinction' between on-disc and off-disc DLC

Apr 3rd 2012 12:04PM (Joystiq)
I don't understand why no one figured this out

1- Sony obviously paid for hte parallel development of the characters, hence being free on Vita So because they had them already, they put them on the disc specifically to avoid that. Jerks

2- Anyone who played on the original Xbox will tell you that people don't download content unless forced, even if it's free (Mech Assault, Crimson Skies come especially to mind with the maps and planes). How do you feel about it instead popping up "Download this 1.5GB file To play online"? You cannot do what you do with a driving game and just map the physics to another car, it has to have the file for the fighter, which would then still be locked until you pony up.

3-There are many less popular games that have you downloading hundreds of megs of dummy data to avoid the bitch session. Their stuff is still on the disc.

Star Wars: The Old Republic launch doc recounts years of development

Dec 22nd 2011 1:17PM (Joystiq)
They need to not make this game, which will devolve like all RPGs into "raid", which just mean running into places and clicking

They said this is KOTOR 3,4,5,6,7,8. Well, your time would have been better spent making those if you want story. MMO by their very nature cannot have story, because everyone is not experiencing the same thing at the same time. And for god's sake:

Asskicking, how hard is it. No turn based crap. I expect Jedi Knight 2 style play in an MMO. It's not hard, and that's the RPG taht star Wars fans want to play. Real action. Judt think, Jedi knight 4, the size of Skyrim.

EFF working to make console modding legal

Dec 2nd 2011 4:00PM (Joystiq)
Given that 99% of consoles are modded to play pirated games (sorry homebrewers, the 1% who claim they play homebrew games, 95% of those are lying), no, it shouldn't be made legal. The only things that should be torpedoed are region locks.

Why Rite Aid? Canadian/Foreign drugs at reasonable prices from civilized countries with socialized health care, Or counterfeit versions of the same (which is likely what they'll accuse legit ones of being)

Zippo- Know how many counterfeit zippos there are out there?

Batman: Arkham City supports Games for Windows Live

Aug 30th 2011 11:53PM (Joystiq)
@xiLeShadow Most of what you say is all good reasons, especially the free DLC issue. But MS already controls the operating system on which all PC gaming runs. But at least with MS, I can call a number if I have a problem, and it's resolved within a few minutes instead of weeks through Steam. Even if your console is banned from Live, you can still play the games you've bought on your HD. Not so with Steam. Valve is equally bad, and worse in many ways

So let's agree that a single company having control over an industry is bad, and that there needs to be a single, Ultraviolet style organization who cannot take your games away from you, and has a phone number you can call, and no limit on what you can do

@muckuruxx Because I'm paying my $59.99 the same as the Xbox user. The functionality and APIs are already there, as well as the majority of the programming. Including them is easy. The rest of the GFWL infrastructure can go hang, I just want my bink, and I want it to count.

Because all PC games that run on Windows should support achievements. That's what's killing me with Battlefield 3, I want achievements, but I don't want to play the crappy version. I have no idea why people would care about the fact that it uses it in the first place, once the game starts it's the game. It bugs the crap out of me I;m paying, and I'm playing, but I'm not getting the 100% benefit I could with another thousand gamerscore

Report: Japanese retailers backing away from Xbox 360

Aug 17th 2011 7:34PM (Joystiq)
@JohnnyVonRotten A xenophobia that Japanese companies like Sony have spent a long time building. Essentially they have spent the last 20-30 years convincing Japanese people that foreign manufacturers could, and will abandon them without the ability to get their hardware repaired or their software supported in a microsecond if given the chance. So the consumers gravitate away from the foreign products

That, and the 360 still has a dearth of Japanese genres like dating sims, JRPGs, and other stapels. They also seem to have very little clue as how to market to Japan, and how to capture the aesthetic that makes Japanese people buy. The only place I ever see a lot of 360 product is in Yodobashi camera, and I'm guessing that MS pays rent on the space, because I've only ever seen a single person browsing for games.

The good news is that thanks to partnerships with Japanese companies, western games are finally getting their fair shake with the players, instead of being stuck in a corner. Call of Duty, GTA etc are doing pretty well. There's hope yet, but MS has to learn how to sell to Japan first, and they'd do well to partner with an existing company there like Panasonic to give them street traction.

Xbox Ghostbusters multiplayer glitches to be busted this fall

Jun 24th 2010 12:24PM (Joystiq)
It's ludicrous this took 18 months. I have a feeling the only reason they're patching it is because MS paid for them to add Natal support. I'm hoping there will be plenty more people online looking to finish the glitched achievements

Preview: Battlestar Galactica Online

Jun 20th 2010 12:47PM (Joystiq)
Battlestar Galactica never had a second season, it was cancelled in 1978.

There was that Ron Moore space show that stole a lot of its proper nouns that was on Sci-Fi, a lot of people seem to confuse the two for some reason
