Sony, Vivendi sued after 'infant' suffers seizure

shase:

BTW, the mcdonalds coffee case was taken up by the press out of context. If you spill hot coffee on you, you should expect it to be hot and hurt you, that is reasonable. It is NOT reasonable to expect it to be so hot that it causes you disfigurement on your crotch and 2nd degree burns. Given this, the case is more than fair.

Not having a go at you, just correcting a misconception

The Grand Theft Auto IV trailer

Mephistopheles:

GTA:SA was the singlemost expansive and free roaming environment in a game I have ever seen and frankly to dismiss it as "lame" is lacking in creative appreciation or gaming knowledge.

Sure Rockstar/T2 has caused damage to the industry too, but the GTA series has also been incredibly well constructed and executed.

That said, I hope this is something a little different and not just more of the same with a new face. Variety is the spice of life.

Sony, Vivendi sued after 'infant' suffers seizure

Mar 29th 2007 7:51PM (Joystiq)
Expect this to be thrown out and her told to sue the rental place. The Manufacturer supplied all relevent documentation and warnings. That they were not passed on is of no fault of Vivendi.

The question is purely is the rental place themselves even likely to be sued. As far as I am aware, gaming and TV programs have the same effect so if she was allowing her son to watch a TV and that had a warning, then she has consented to the possibility of such events happening. It isn't nice that it has, and as has been pointed she might not have known he was susceptable, but that isn't grounds for a prosecution either.

I am so tired of blame culture...

Pope condemns violence and sex in games, worries kids too exposed

Pope also fails to promote use of condoms for safe sex reducing pregnency and spread of HIV. However, he is only thinking of the kids...

Europe's 'This is living' PS3 ad

Jan 15th 2007 8:51AM (Joystiq)
I hope to god this is someone from some college doing a 'my first advertising' course and not a genuine advert. Can you REALLY expect the target market of the PS3 to appreciate cup stacking? I mean seriously so far we've had nothing over here as it is still just over 2 months until we get th damn thing. This sort of advert is not going to generate any interest.

Both the Xbox360 and the Wii adverts contain almost entirely games footage showing people what they want/need to see to make an informed decision (though in the case of the Wii it shows people playing the games as well to reenforce the controller). Playstation's 1-trick-pony approach to advertising pissed me off at the PS2 with its "The 3rd place" crap. What is wrong with just showing people what the technology can do? Have they really lost their way that badly?

I really hope they can turn this around. The price is going to cripple the uptake as it is without any further difficulties and I think we NEED 3 major competitors out there. 3 is the magic number, be it Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum +/Amstrad, Nintendo/Sega/Atari Jaguar, Amiga/Atari ST/PC and so on.
