I think just about everyone here is missing the point, and could stand to study a little bit of marketing 101. Nintendo's new logo here, regardless of its orgin (fake or not), is incredibly well conceived. A good corporate or product logo: 1) draws in the eye 2) is unique (and thus more easy recognized) 3) cleverly relates to the theme or theory on which the product is sold.
The logo combines a unique multi-surface object where each side is a D-Pad. Clearly the connection to the product's return to a simpler and more accesible control scheme is the main focus of the logo, satisfying #3.
The unique shape it creates achieves the other 2 criteria easily - 1) there isn't anything like it, and 2) the "cube" in the center of the logo is an optical illusion whereby the eye can see the either an outcropped cube or merely the interior surface of the D-Pad's three dimensional sides. This is just like an MC Escher drawing. Thus it attracts the eye, catches your attention (almost hypnotically), and even subtly invokes an association to the gamecube (for which there is 100% backwards compatibility).
I won't be surprised at all to find out that this logo, in some barely modified form (maybe color) is in fact the new console. Furthermore, the posts regarding 5 and the Japanese "Go" parallels the relational concept imbued in the logo. I think the Nintendo Go is the next console's brand. While the average adolescent may not understand it, the name will be very effective - hell, it requires you to say nintendo before it, making it even more of a household name.
Quit being lemmings by insulting Doom 3. Doom 3 may not have revolutionized the genre, but frankly, it didn't have to, because id practically INVENTED the genre. That people were frustrated by the flashlight issue is precisely why it was so effective -- it forced you to feel less powerful and smaller as a force, so that the monsters were always one step ahead. It was a cinematic idea. Crude, yes a little bit, but effective.
Doom 3 sold like hell, continues to sell, and has made id ass loads of money. It continued the tradition of the greatest FPS EVER - Doom 2. The market is driven by casual gamers, not hardcore fanatics who look to video games to fulfill their lives.
Nintendo Revolution = Nintendo GO?
