SNES controller the grandaddy of them all?
Apr 30th 2007 5:50PM (Joystiq)Am I saying the SNES controller is the greatest controller of all time? No, but I am saying it seems to have a great influence on things.
As for "ignoring" the black and white buttons on the Xbox controller to help prove my point, well I tend to liken them to the "z" button on top of the Gamecube pad. Those two buttons are not part of the face buttons much the same way that the z button isn't really part of the trigger/buttons on the Cube pad.
For those that actually got what I was trying to say and enjoyed it, thanks for reading.
UK paper: Sony used beheaded goat to promote God of War II
Apr 28th 2007 10:09PM (Joystiq)I think Sony needs to fire their entire European marketing department, these people are clearly insane.

Mar 26th 2007 8:24PM (Joystiq)Yes, it's an "animated showcase" but the word you used to describe it was joyless. What I'm saying is that I find "joy" in watching/playing Dragon's Lair, because it's a really well done piece of animation.
I do believe that Dragon's Lair did implement what it did rather well. Yeah, some of the moves are confusing, but if you pay close enough attention to what Dirk is doing and/or what direction he's looking in, you can play the game and have a great time doing so. The dynamic was implemented to the best of their ability.
Part of the fun of Dragon's Lair is the sense of accomplishment once you learn it, and I think that it's a rewarding experience to master the game. Yeah, you don't have any room to screw up, but that's the draw. You want to see what's next, and that "one more try" element is there the first time you biteit. It's trial and error game play at it's most simple, but looking back, weren't most games trial and error in those days?
Another thing about DL, if you become good at the game, you can fly through it with no problem on the 50 cents you'd plug into the machine. Other shallow (but great) arcade games like TMNT are designed to take your money just as much as DL. The difference is that you can't get good at those games, you just get your ass beat the entire time, but I don't see people knocking those games when they're brought up or re-released.
Or you know, maybe I'm just a sucker for an old school game like DL. That could be it.
Nintendo 64 tech demo videos still make us cry
Mar 26th 2007 8:07PM (Joystiq)Last time I checked, it's because Nintendo owned manufacturing plants, didn't want to pay another company (like Sony) royalties for CDs, and because Nintendo wanted to make money off of every single cart that was manufactured - not just sold. Did it kill them? Sure thing, but don't blame Miyamoto.
Dragon's Lair bound for Blu-ray
Mar 26th 2007 7:56PM (Joystiq)To call DL a joyless animation showcase is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. The animation, artwork and design is freaking top shelf stuff, and it's actually fun to just WATCH Dragon's Lair, especially Time Warp.
Geez.
Too Human's Denis Dyack pokes fun at Penny Arcade game
Mar 23rd 2007 10:43PM (Joystiq)Just wanted to comment on this...
"He's certainly right that a lot of people didn't like the 3D stuff in our trailer. I happen to be one of them. All I can say is that we'll keep working on it and hopefully make something cool."
If you didn't like the 3D stuff shown in the PA trailer, why show it off? I'm under the impression that the two of you have a lot of control over what has been going on with that game. Hasn't there been a time in development where the two of you thought "This 3D stuff isn't working" or even trying out a different, more stylized look?
And I'm sure the 3D guys on the PA game team are now home in bed crying after reading that comment. Regardless, best of luck.
