Dissecting 'Inception': Six Interpretations and Five Plot Holes

Jul 20th 2010 12:29PM (Cinematical)
Maybe someone said this. I haven't had time to read all 111 comments. But, here is my guess. Trying to figure out what is real and what is not is a fools game.

I think Nolan's intent maybe be that like dreams themselves, this movie is up for interpretation.

Now we can all sleep better.

What's Your Movie Morality?

Jul 13th 2010 8:57PM (Cinematical)
I read The Killer Inside Me many years ago, but it didn't prepare me for the brutality portrayed in Winterbottom's new film. It was difficult for me to watch the scene with Jessica Alba -- I turned my head for most of it. I hated the scene, but I wouldn't accuse Winterbottom of using brutality to entertain. The violence in the movie is portrayed as something ugly and unforgivable. Regardless, the graphic violence felt unnecessary.

'Avatar' and the Death of Storytelling

Dec 27th 2009 3:24PM (Cinematical)
I don't mind the simple story, but what is inexcusable is terrible dialogue. Still, it is a fantastic achievement in which I think the simplicity works to its advantage.

If anything, it can be seen as a revisionist version of Titanic. Boy from other side of the tracks meets Girl. The Humans are the iceberg. Pandora is the sinking ship. But this time, "Leo" gets to save the ship and get the girl.

Girls on Film: The Rise and Fall of Brittany Murphy

The Dead Girl. Kinda creepy to watch her in that, no? Regrdless, it isn't a good movie.

If you have Netflix Instant Watch, check her our in Ramen Girl. It isn't perfect, but is a nice little surprise.

Poll: iPhone 3GS or the Pre?

Jun 8th 2009 8:32PM (Engadget)
I admit, I am a hardcore Apple fanboy. But, I am fair. The Pre does have some cool things going for it, but not enough. Even if some of the GUI is slicker and more polished, Apple is way far ahead in features and apps (50,000!). It will take Palm a very long time to catch up.

However, forget Palm. Before the iPhone, I was a Treo owner. And, it was the biggest POS electronic device I have ever owned. So much so that over a period of 2-3 years, I owned 5 of them simply because they would die, and need to be replaced. The day I bought one, and walked out of the store, literally, in the 10 minute walk home, it died. I walked back, and they gave me a new one. This set the tone for the next few years. But worse?

Their customer service is the worst I have experienced with any company. Ever. I took my dead Treo in one time, and the guy helping me took forever because he was busy on the phone yelling at his girlfriend who was buying a new car. After 20 minutes, he hung up, and said "Pfft.. Women." Shaking his head. Like I was supposed to be sympathetic? And it wasn't just one time. Most of the employees in the store were either talking or texting on their phones. WTF?

And everyone knew the Palms couldn't be easily fixed. So, they always had to replace it with a new (refurb) one. However, each time, they insisted they had to send it out to repair. Which meant, I would go ONE WEEK without a phone. This happened several times. And it sucked.

Needless to say, their customer service via phone was not much better.

Sprint is a shitty company. Notice they are cheaper than AT&T yet still lost millions of customers recently.

Palms flaws aside, I think Sprint is going to hurt them more than help.

Cinematical's 25 Lamest of 2008!

Jan 4th 2009 12:34PM (Cinematical)
Please don't discredit the breed because of lame celebrity trends, and kiddie movies.

Yes, sometimes they are like children with 'special needs' but we've had one for 9 years, and he is the greatest

Discuss: Is the World Ready for a Black James Bond?

Nov 18th 2008 12:40AM (Cinematical)
Black Bond? No way. I'm white, but don't get me wrong. I voted for Obama. Love the guy. I teared up on election night. I never thought I'd live to see a black president. I even chocked up when watching him speak on 60 minutes on Sunday. My first crush as a little boy was Penny on Good Times (yes, I know it was Janet). Beyonce had me drooling on SNL this past Saturday. And call me crazy, I liked Catwoman only because Halle looked so freakin' hot. But, I will say it again. Black Bond? No. Why? Because, he isn't black. That's all there is to it.

For that matter, I'm a Jew. Guess what? I don't want to see a Jewish Bond. Why? He's not Jewish. My wife is Japanese. Guess what? Don't want to see a Japanese Bond. We have a chihuahua who we love dearly. Like a son. I don't want to see a chihuahua play Bond either. Bond is who he is. And that is that.

Do I want a black president? Hell yeah. But please, not Bond.

Trailer Park: To Sequel or Not to Sequel

Aug 31st 2008 11:45AM (Cinematical)
Sukiyaki Western Django is difficult to watch. I've had an import DVD for months, and can't see to get through it. Mainly, as pointed about, because the Japanese accents in this English language movie are hard to understand, and the disc has no subtitles.

As far as acting goes, it is QT at his worst. Which is saying a lot.
