No 'new Xbox' talk at E3, Microsoft says

@This Little Man Says His Name Is

That seems unlikely. Computer hardware hasn't significantly advanced much since the 4800 series GPU in the WiiU. The 5000,6000,7000 series equivalents are only marginally more powerful. Since it takes 2 years to pick a gpu, customized it, build architecture around it, tweak it, make a dev kit for it, upgrade it, test it and launch it, the 720/Ps4 'might' be running 6000/7000 series equivalent ATI gpus, which aren't going to be significantly faster than the WiiU. Next-gen will be, from what i can tell, a totally graphically even console war. Every console maker will run every game, in 1080p, all the fancy effects turn on, with smooth frame-rates, and only marginal differences between the 3 console makers graphically. The WiiU really IS next-gen, its just hard to see that at the moment. Developer quotes are a great indication:

THQ: "WiiU is just alot more powerful than current HD consoles it does 1080p very easy."

Crytek: "WiiU devkits are very powerful,the specs are very good"

Vigil Games: "We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins."

Epic: "It will do things current HD consoles simply cant do its going to be a powerful box."

Valve/EA want there digital services on WiiU with EA wanting exclusivity says alot about the power with EA boss recently going to see nintendo about full specs then all of a sudden EA want exclusivity? Interesting.

Anonymous insider: "Tech demo's not possible on ps3/360."

@A Sandwich

Sony needs time to copy what Nintendo unveils.

:P

Seriously though, isn't Sony going to be showing off some USB Ps2-adaptor-player thing for backwards compatibility?

Diablo 3 emerges from hell May 15

PIck up the Book of Cain. A lot of gaming retailers are selling it and it gives a great insight into the lore and history of diablo.

As for SC2, i'd honestly pick up SC1 and play through it, with Brood War, just for the story, its pretty epic.

Capcom's Svensson embarrassed by 'Revelaitons' covers, optimistic about RE6

I'll preorder RE6 tomorrow if a WiiU version is announced.

Japanese hardware sales, February 20 - 26: Greatest idea ever edition

Mar 5th 2012 6:43AM (Joystiq)
Only about 12 months ago, i had a flashback about some movie i watched when i was barely 3 or 4. All i remembered was some alien creatures with a lot of eyes on the front, and one of them had blue eyes. Then right at the end, there was a flower growing in an unsuspecting place. I researched every Disney movie, did a shit-ton of research, before i finally asked on Google Answers. Sure enough, someone found it, it was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I had watched the localised version called Warriors of the Wind. I now own it of course on blu-ray, and the movie is still just as beautiful as i remember.

So far, so good: Why the Vita rises where the PSP fell

@Shockwave

You obviously haven't been here that long. His gripe is with the anti-nintendo bias. The 3DS sold better in its launch window than the Vita did, but sales were still very average, and Joystiq was going all "doom and gloom" on Nintendo. The Vita sells less, but they're praising it?

Then we have the Skyward Sword debacle in the Top 10 of last year, that was a joke that saw heaps of people flee this site, i now get most of my gaming news from other sources and i'm very active on The Verge. I'll be willing to bet that even though Xenoblade Chronicles is the best JRPG of the current gen on any platform, Joystiq won't put it top 10 this year either. The place stinks of obvious anti-nintendo bias. Thats why Dekutree made this point.

Vita sales hit 1.2 million worldwide, software surpasses 2 million units

@StarcasM

They really shot themselves in the foot in Australia. Limited the hardware to only the gaming-specific retailers like EB Games, then locked in the 3G coverage to Vodaphone which is by far our WORST telecommunications provider. No matter if you're talking about customer service, outages, black spots and the like, Vodafail are the worst, and generally anyone whos ever inside their home might as well give up on anything Vodaphone related as reception is non-existant.

Hironobu Sakaguchi made this Last Story trailer for you

@Faenix

Xenoblade is widely considered to be the best JRPG of the last 5-6 years on any consoles, its worth unpacking the Wii just for that, nevermind Skyward Sword.
