Fanswag: Win Gears of War 2 and a pile of swag!

I'd like to see a can opener attached to the gun, for you know when you need to open that can of spam in between fire fights.

NYTimes: PS3 is $299, GT5 'best seller,' and Xbox uses Cell chip

Nov 30th 2007 10:31PM (Joystiq)
Believe it or not, this is nothing compared to the other stories the NYT has completely gotten wrong, fabricated, or stolen. The paper has gone down considerably in circulation and their esteem by a lot of people have been ruined. This is just another example and most people probably won't even realize it, but of course gamers do. Don't go reading the NYT for news or anything intelligent really, it just promotes an agenda and is no longer really journalism. Oh, and people are NOT better off reading it, being misinformed is worse than being uninformed since you can at least become informed correctly if you are uninformed.

Mark Rein excited about UT3 mods on PS3

Nov 29th 2007 5:29PM (Joystiq)
The problem people don't seem to understand is that the day of the big total conversions are long over. You will not see anything on the scale of Team Fortress or Counterstrike ever again. Do you realize how many attempts have been made in recent years to create something of the sort or even port these to newer engines and they all end up exactly the same way. People don't have the resources to do this anymore as the complexity these days for things like this is way beyond what it use to take. Now a single gun model has more polygons than what a whole game had previously. The amount of art, modeling, and coding necessary is just too much for some guy in a garage and a few friends online to make anything truly worthwhile. What you will see are simple alterations in weapons, game styles, and maybe a few new levels using mostly stock artwork and models. Mods are not what they use to be and it won't be changine.

Did Microsoft pay $50 million for GTA IV content?

Jun 18th 2007 12:13PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I highly doubt this is true. If the quote is accurate, it was probably taken out of context. This report is all over the internet right now, but if anyone would use some simple common sense they'd realize that paying 50 million to secure the exclusive rights to only a couple downloadable content additions to a game is not worth fully funding the development of the actual game and more. I'm 90% sure that this news is just incorrect. 50 Million to secure exclusive on the game itself is even pushing it.

X3F hands on: Command and Conquer 3

Apr 26th 2007 9:08PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I beat the GDI campaign on the PC and tried the demo on the 360 for several hours over the last couple days. The 360 does a fantastic job mirroring the PC version, with some minor interface and of course control adjustments. Of course, the PC's keyboard/mouse combination is infinitely superior for playing an rts, but EA has really done an incredible job designing the controls for this game using the 360 gamepad. It works well enough, and you don't feel completely lost when you transition from the PC to the 360. It is a bit difficult, and the learning curve is pretty steep if you're not going to dedicate some time to this game, but it isn't nearly as bad as you think it is when you initially play the game. I've really enjoyed the XBoxLive quick connect so far in the demo and have played many games without problems, aside from a couple disconnects. It is worlds better than the crap I had to deal with on the PC side, where patch after patch had to come out before you could even play online.

F.E.A.R. PS3/360 comparison video

Apr 21st 2007 6:08PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Just read the nice review IGN gave F.E.A.R. on the PS3 and you'll see why the 360/PC version is superior to the PS3 once again. Getting old isn't it?
