...ummm, I'm guessing this case is a reference to the VW "Unpimp the Auto" ads, which were hilarious...particularly the German doctor/technician going "aw snap!" Considering this story contains Audi (VW), I'm guessing that's the reason for the reference...it hasn't been THAT long since this ad campaign. See ytmnd to help catch up with current pop culture...particularly the renewed love of VW's "Aw, snap!" A few months dated, but not that bad.
Sooooo...where's the "SimCity" part of SimCity Societies? It's SimCity without much city planning sim other than being more like creating a emotion sandbox for "Sims"...a game where you micromanage virtual people doing the virtual tedium/things that you already do in life. The Sims also felt like "work" to me past a certain point because I could barely give a **** about telling virtual people when to **** for more than a couple of days. However, people can have all of the Sims they want, but I think it sucks that the Sims is creeping back into one of the EA/Maxis series I've always enjoyed for its engineering aspects. The focus, as hinted by the name, is now more on the people aspect rather than the city/engineering aspect. I don't want to build happy people town or scared people town...I want to build and maintain an efficiently functioning and prosperous city.
Ummmm...zoning was fun and one the most cool things was seeing what would develop based on your decisions. You come up with general plans and see what the simulation does with your decisions. It was all about trying to tweak/balance efficiency and development to keep the city prosperous and organized.
Though I guess this is the indication that I'm supposed to give up my sim gaming good times and watch everyone play Sims in the City. The tsunami created by watered-down mainstream appeal just pwned me again with the "thinking is too hard" and engineering isn't cool argument. I guess this is vicious payback for complaints that the system for managing water pumps/pipes was too tedious and flaky (which could have likely been greatly improved with some UI changes).
Fortunately for me, Chemical Brothers' "Acid Test" with Richard Aschroft actually makes it even better. It's a song I'd hot-lap to...one of the rare occasions where music in a vid actually agrees with me.
Now I want a downloadable version (with some decent audio). I don't think it was the music causing the distortion...I think something is just wrong with the levels he mixed everything at (or the original encoder). The distortion increases with the louder moments (engine or music).
After first seeing this in Autoweek, I'm still saddened that can't do something like this with a V6/V8 to make it more "practical" as something that could hit the market (more bang for your R32 buck, perhaps). Mid-engined, nicely styled, RWD, 2-seat GTI...give it a DSG option too (the manual can be a bit of a downer in traffic or dress shoes) and you've got some fun. I'd actually consider coming to terms with VW's not-so-great reliability for something that attractive.
"Queen...Oasis, Morrissey, The Smiths, Supergrass, New Order,..."
Yes. Though I'm now convinced that if/when they do come out, they'll be expensive to collect (if going the DLC route). However, there's something suddenly depressing about imagining some of my favorite songs being played on a plastic guitar that's reminiscent of a PlaySkool toy. Too bad I don't drink...though I think I could still shake off some of the shame.
Passions Pictures has done some tremendous work over the years...particularly in the realm of music videos/ads. It was on the list of places I had really wanted to work at after graduating.
"I... just can't... stop laughing at that picture!"
...neither can I. Too good.
Getting mad at this is like getting mad at the latest infomercial or $19.99 dollar piece of crap you see being pushed on TV. Instead...shake your head, move on, and wonder why you don't have the (lack of) scruples required to sell your own $19.99 total piece of crap to idiots and make millions too. After all, turning over a pancake is so damn impossible.

All Hail Wolfsburg! VW GTI W12-650 struts its stuff for Autocar
Aug 8th 2007 10:13PM (Autoblog)VW durability may be fairly terrible, but I'd probably overlook that little problem and run out to buy one.
