Smart approach, IMO. Iwata casts a very wide net at little risk and expense to Nintendo for potentially huge hits. Also, and I'l probably get flamed for this, Nintendo isn't targeting us as end-customers - us being loyal readers of this fine blog. ;)
Speaking of restaurants, Mr. Kutaragi will likely be eating his words a year from now. Sony is in a brutal economic position: they're going to lose money on each PS3 even at $599 a pop; I wouldn't be surprised to see MS add to Sony's misery by dropping the X360 price $50-100 when the PS3 comes out.
If you're an investor, shorting Sony is beginning to look really interesting.
I think it's safe to say that $599 ain't happening for a lot of us, and $499 SKU is a pretty crippled machine. It will be interesting to see if there's the same kind of PS3 shortage that there was for the 360.
