Microsoft files patent for user-health-generated Avatars {Joystiq}

Dec 21st 2009 7:26PM yeah, before we had all this social networking, web browsing, DVDs, Mp3s, MTVs and HDTVs...

These damn whippersnappers don't know what its really about!

Dec 21st 2009 6:51PM I doubt this will work out. Will our egos allow us to actually portray who we are to the world when we have been so accustomed to hiding behind flattering usernames and avatars?

MAG beta open to all on January 4 {Joystiq}

Dec 21st 2009 4:17PM to tmac, Mass Effect is infallible and sacrosanct. It is an attitude that can be forgiven, for who among us has not come close to worshiping a certain game for its inapproachable awesomeness? Like me and Metroid Prime.

Dec 21st 2009 4:15PM It is really important that they do this. Most of Sony's bigger online games lately have needed patching almost immediately (though that goes for most significantly online games across platforms), and this game relies upon it much more heavily than most

Dec 21st 2009 4:13PM Mass Effect's one of those games that's really just hot in the internet gamer community, like Metroid or God of War. It's hard for the game to really get the massive pull it needs to go mainstream

Though 1 million sales is something to be respected. That gives you more than 97% of games, i should think (more or less depending on what other games you're considering)

I'm sure EA and BioWare will be more than pleased by Mass Effect 2's performance, but it isn't the kind of game you need to avoid, not like something with huge mainstream pull like Modern Warfare 2, or even huger (but slower burning) mainstream pull like NSMBWii

Dec 21st 2009 2:40PM Nintendo really seems to have forgotten about Mario Party since they released 8 and DS

Not sure that that's a bad thing, though.

Dec 21st 2009 11:43AM 2011 sounds about right for a new handheld from them, i'd say. To match the launch of the next DS (which i think will launch around then, too)

2011 is going to be the huge year for generational leaps ahead. Everything except the PS4 will be that year.

Dec 21st 2009 11:40AM legal issues. It got an ESRB rating a long, long time ago, but has been held in limbo as NoA lawyers suggested that a lot of the music was ripped off/improperly licensed, and a lot of the pop culture references would require licensing too

More of a mess than it's worth for them, sadly enough. The better option for them would be to do a trilogy re-release, where they could iron out all the problems keeping the series from going global (tunes and references in EarthBound, severe balancing issues in Mother 1)

Dec 21st 2009 11:38AM It seems that VC releases is another realm where NCL has more of a say in what gets released and what doesn't than either of the other regions, which would make sense since, from our western perspective, their seems to be an imbalance in TurboGrafx16 games (a console that was basically DOA over here, but huge in Japan), and a shortage of N64 games (a console that performed best in the west, but really came up short in Japan)

Japanese hardware sales, Dec. 7 - Dec. 13: Wrap it up edition {Joystiq}

Dec 20th 2009 10:58PM Should be a merry christmas, especially given the diversity of that lineup.

What i'm technically getting for christmas is Tales, Crystal Bearers, and a mystery downloadable game for Wii via secret santa. Should be good for all this free time i'm getting.
