Exactly. They would've lost money. Losing money just for something that "may" become popular in the future is kind of a bad idea. One, you're losing money, and two, constantly losing money ain't a sustainable business practice.

As has been said many times before: businesses are for making money. Sony and Microsoft may arguably have better consoles, but they have worse business plans. Nintendo will only bother with HD output if HDTVs become popular, instead of the niche market they are now.

I love that the best the fanboys come up with is "Maybe they had it set to the wrong resolution!"

I like the idea of the convergence of technology and education. I think it really speaks about the increasing ubiquity of me-Sweet christmas are those leg warmers?!

Rabid Sony Fanboy: Nintendo always does this! They release the features they should've had in a system a year later!! And that's totally different from Sony who all-but-stated we'd be forced to buy upgrades for the already expensive PS3! Sony FTW!
Bitter Nintendo Fanboy: If you can include DVD, you can include HD!! I'm sick of Nintendo forcing people to buy upgraded versions of their products!! PLZ TO BE STOP RAPING UR FANBASE NINTENDO!
Rational Nintendo fan: Do any of us actually know what adding a DVD player would entail? Also, what's to stop Nintendo from selling the dongle or download or whatever for, like, $20? And aren't they only adding the DVD functionality because you guys kept whining about not having it?

@3: Add the price of a memory card (means to save)and a game into the price of the core 360. Now it's what, $380?

@20: It's not the launch, it's the rest of the holidays they're concerned with. The fans snap up the launch supply, and then everybody else comes a-lookin'. Sony can't even hope match the numbers.

Kinda like how Nintendo "forces" gamers to rebuy old games, buy accessories, extra controllers, an Wii Ethernet adapter, the DVD dongle, Zelda: TP on the Wii, and to "suffer" through "last-gen" graphics to use the controller.

The sad thing is, I've actually heard people say all of those. The last one just minutes ago, on digg.
