"The same thing that happens to everything else."

JC gets props for referencing the worst line from the first X-Men movie.

'Breach' game code theft at PAX East ends in arrest [update]

Mar 30th 2010 9:48AM (Joystiq)
Yup, that's a legit photo of the kid being dragged away -- I was on that same escalator when security pushed him through.

We were curious about what he had done, glad to see the news made it all the way to Joystiq ;D

BTW, Breach actually looked interesting. The tech they've built for destructible environments is impressive, it's not hard to imagine it being fleshed out into a compelling gameplay dynamic.

A 'real' Katamari controller

May 25th 2009 3:10PM (Joystiq)
To all those wondering how it's different from a standard trackball, keep in mind that katamari requires input from *two* joysticks to work.

The trackball-enabled PS2 controller mentioned above would not work, as it's only acting as a single joystick.

Kelly's rig interprets the ball's movement and translates it into the dual-joystick input katamari is based off of.

EA fesses up, Rock Band coming to Wii

Jan 31st 2008 10:41PM (Joystiq)
This is fantastic news, at long last! Hopefully the delay of this announcement has been spent to preparing comparable online offerings on the Nintendo WFC.

Online multiplayer *should* be a given, as it was proven possible in the Wii version of GH3. Downloadable content is more ellusive, but hopefully the potential revenue stream will entice EA and harmonix to get it rolling.

We'll probably see the use of a USB dongle to get all the peripherals connected, but wii remote-powered peripherals would be pretty neat. ;D

Wii Guitar Hero III getting DLC and replacement discs

Dec 8th 2007 12:11PM (Joystiq)
This is great news! Hopefully the new disks will also include quickplay co-op mode, another one of the features missing from the original version of the game that was later patched on the 360 and ps3 versions.

A heart-wrenching tale about Animal Crossing

"Bandwidth" costs vary wildly by provider and plan, but generally you sign a contract to pay a fixed cost per month for X gigabytes of transfered data. If you end up transfering more data than allotted in your contract, you have to pay overage charges by the gigabyte. If you are slated for 50 gbs per month, and 51 people download a 1gb file from you in a given month, you'll have to pay overage charges.

Basically, every time someone views a website or downloads a file from a website, it uses up the site's bandwidth quota.

Redirecting a heartfelt story to gay porn seems like a pretty dick way to go about fixing the issue, however. :|

Comparing Rock Band to Guitar Hero in difficulty

Nov 16th 2007 12:36AM (Joystiq)
GH3 on expert is indeed the highest level of difficulty yet seen in the series. It's still beatable, but even seasoned GH2 expert vets will have some trouble.

They put in some devious tricks to throw off expert players, most notably putting black "must strum" notes in the middle of strings of hammer-ons. These actually make it feel a little more like playing a *real* guitar, but they'll break your streaks the first few times through.

The only song in career mode that seems to err on the side of "ridiculously hard" is Raining Blood, but that's largely because the mosh parts have no discernable melody.
