I'm a huge nintendo fan, and I actually hope that MS does take the touchscreen idea. It further paints nintendo as the leading interface innovator in the industry.

It doesnt have to measure the turning angle from a level line. It could use the first two inputs it gets (from your middle/index fingers) as neutral.
