Nexus One review

Jan 5th 2010 12:38AM (Engadget)
I don't wanna sound rude, but I really wish Josh wouldn't do phone reviews of non-iPhones. It just seems that there is heavy bias against anything that isn't the iPhone. Its fine if you like the iPhone, but the review doesn't seem to have the objectivity it should. I find Paul Miller to be much better when it comes to phones and gives everyone a fair chance. It was impressive watching him defend the Palm Pre in the last Engadget show while Josh praised the greatness of the iPhone, lol.

As for this specific review, I find it weird how many times you mentioned that the UI design updates were only cosmetic and not functional. This is something I don't remember seeing in reviews of any Apple products. A huge part of the iPhone's appeal is the cosmetic look of its products, the iphone doesn't need shiny icons, or physic effects, but those parts were praised when it has it, and no one felt the need to state multiple times how its not "functional".

Another weird part was how you said the Nexus One's browser scrolling was choppy, when (atleast in that video) it looked just fine to me. The only difference is saw is the iPhone has a slower scroll speed while Androids is faster (and you were flicking the screen quite fast, which is probably based on your use of the iPhone). The Droid on the other hand did seem choppy.

One last thing, in the part about the new gallery, the review fails to mention the use of the accelerometer to add another "cosmetic" effect which moves the picture grid around.

DROID headed to Germany as Motorola MILESTONE (update: Italy too, no Google Maps Navigation)

All I know is I need a new Android phone to replace my G1, I hope either I can get a Droid unlocked that works on T-Mobile 3G, or that Sony Ericsson X3/X10/Xwhatever turns out be the amazing Android phone it sounds like....and T-Mobile gets it.

Does anyone know if T-Mobile uses the 3G bands used in Europe, or the ones AT&T uses here in America?

Google hits Android ROM modder with a cease-and-desist letter

The problem is that Google doesn't provide their built in apps on the Market, so if he didn't package them in, then there would be no way to get the Gmail, Calendar, Youtube, Google Talk, among other apps. Hell I don't even know if they'd allow him to even keep stuff like the Alarm Clock and Browser. The only built in app they have on the Market is the newest Google Maps, but thats only because they didn't want to wait till Cupcake update had come out.

Poll: iPhone 3GS or the Pre?

Jun 8th 2009 6:25PM (Engadget)
Definitely Android. I might be biased having a G1 but I still believe its better than both the iPhone's Mac OS and Pre's WebOS. Most of the stuff Apple showed seemed to be catching up to Android (video recording, mms, tethering, turn by turn nav, etc...) The 3GS is gonna have a 3 meg camera.... the Samsung Android phone is gonna have a 5 megapixel camera. Plus the fact that Apple refuses to allow multitasking.

I like WebOS because I think its a better overall OS than Mac OS, but Palm needs to quickly open up their SDK and let the apps flow to compete with Apple and Google.

Google's new Gmail mobile web app sports offline message caching, lots of floaty goodness

So I can understand the reason iphone users would want to use this, but why would Android/G1 users want to use the site when the Gmail app gives us everything except the...."floaty bar"?
