Nintendo expected to announce greater loss than forecast for first half of year

Oct 27th 2011 1:58PM (Joystiq)
I don't think this is good for them, but people who think they are on their way out need to take a breath. The article itself says they still expect to post a profit. This will likely result in an internal policy shift, not a drop to 3rd party status.

Guy chokes a kid after being made fun of in Black Ops, we're ... upset

@theBrayn I stand corrected, modify X-Box live moderator to Sony Customer service. Thank you and have a nice day.

This story is terrible, condoning the action taken is terrible. While I agree that Mark Bradford, should have had the ability to take action against his antagonist, violence is not ever condoned especially between a just barely teenager is not funny and should not be glorified.

By your logic if the kid mouthed off to his mother she should get to put his hand on the burner for a few minutes. News flash children are developing they are learning social norms mouthy kids need discipline, but not the chocking of a stranger.

Violence is, by all civilized people, the option of last resort, when you have no other option you have to fight. Mark Bradford had plenty of options. Talk to the parent, report him to X-Box Live Moderators, or find a different server to play on.

Sad state is Justin that to read most of your writing, your tone is not that different from this kid. Do you feel your personal safety should be in danger when you post? You bring our whole culture down with this message.

Ubisoft's Wii U roundtable, now on video

Jun 13th 2011 2:59PM (Joystiq)
@Kyizen if it can seamlessly stream the game from the TV down to the handheld when my wife kicks me off the TV I will be impressed by Vita. Nintendo showed this with both their Zelda Demo and their new Mario Demo. Based on the experience I had with PSP streaming not many games work for it and it takes a setup I don't care for. The Wii U solves a problem for me as I like to spend time with my wife, but want more time with my hardcore games. If you don't need/want that, power to you, but don't piss on my excitement.

Ubisoft's Wii U roundtable, now on video

@Slomoshun yeah agreed, but the second part where someone plays with dual sticks on a classic controller and the other drops enemies in with the touch screen on the Wii U pad is exciting to me. This is something we have not seen before.

Molyneux calls on UK government to support games industry

Feb 17th 2010 8:29AM (Joystiq)
Its more complicated than most people realize. The comment which spoke to the fact that asking the Tax payers of a country to prop up companies is part of it, but only part. In my experiance more often you seen industries which large numbers of people depend on for their livelyhoods which have historically been strong contributors to the economy get subsidized to ensure they stay in place. This is done so that a pillar of your nation's livelyhood does not fall out leading to widespread unemployment and national decay. The other situation would be to install an industry into your nation, so the industrys you have historically depended on have fallen out of sustainability. You make your country an attactive place for a new growing industry to come and set up so that you build a new pillar into your economy create jobs and attract business which did not have offices in your country previously. As this can have a destabilizing effect on the world economy organizations like the World Trade Organization exist.

Short answer Moly needs to think about why subsidies exist before troubling an overburdened system by asking for cash something I am pretty sure Lionhead is not hurting for.

And to those whould flame me I understand there are other reasons for subsidies, but I don't feel that Peter has described one seeing as I don't feel the UK economy is heavily dependant on the Games Industry.

Wii Warm Up: What's your next big game on the horizon?

Dec 16th 2008 11:15AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
AJ,

I think you might want to look harder at Sin and Punishment 2, Overlord: Dark Legend, Punch Out!, MadWorld, Arc Rise Fantasia, Ghostbusters(word is it is most awesome on the Wii) and Masumura: Demon Blade. These are BTW my next big titles.

I am also looking forward to the potential of Motion Plus.

Wii Warm Up: What Channel? The Photo Channel?

We just got back from England and had a big party to tell stores. The Wii photo channel was the best way to display them in the living room.

Wii Warm Up: Do you feel abandoned?

Jul 29th 2008 10:14AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think people just need to chill out. There is a belief that if a game was not in the press conference it does not exist. There are plenty of third party titles that appeal to me i.e. Dead Rising, Tales of Symphonia and de Blob and a few first party like Wario Land and Animal Crossing. What I don't understand is people who can't resolve owning more than one system if they have a lot of hours for play time. I don't see a problem. Next year games with longer dev cycles will come out and the people who freak out and sell their hardware will go out and buy a second one. There will be another lull and they will sell. Lather rinse repeat for the rest of the hardware cycle.
