Halo 3 pre-order at 7-Eleven

Definitely saw this ad at the local 7-11, in the Graduate Hospital area of Philadelphia. If you don't know where that is, ask Chris Grant.

Gametheory was the second one suggested, earlier this morning. I agree though, Karen, it's woefully under appreciated.

Podcast Rodeo for July 22: Britney Ears

Game Theory! The guys who work on next-gen.biz have a podcast and it's quite good. Hosted by two English fellows and produced by an American, they talk about games, yes, but with a focus on the business end of things. It's not quite as funny as Gamespot's Hotspot, The 1upYours! podcast or even the CAGcast, but it's a different spin on things. A very intelligent podcast from some guys who've been in the business for a long long time (according to them at least). Anyways, I listen to a lot of podcasts and I'm a journalism major in my last year of college. How about we talk about something?

Joystiq interviews Bungie's Frank O'Connor

Oh my god! Joystiq.com as well as every other gaming site in the godddamn world because there's a halo 3 event happening in cali and new york right now! And it's basically the biggest selling game that exists (ya know, besides pokemon and hannah montana)! What are the chances joystiq would cover something important like that? How dare them! Shu Nuff's stupid.

Joystiq Podcast 002 - Perfect for YOU edition (feat. MTV News' Stephen Totilo)

Maybe the case with stubbs the zombie, that no one brought up, is that it just wasn't that good of a game and that's why it didn't take off? It's nice to play around with game genres and conventions and flip them, but baseline most important thing to always pull off is to make a good game, whether it's revolutionary or not.

The art of High Delivery

Feb 18th 2007 8:07AM (Joystiq)
Yeah, it's a pretty game but isn't part of the point that the videogame industry is trying to make right now, "All games are art?" Or was I mistaken? Nice music and pretty backgrounds are more visually and auditorally appealling I suppose, but that doesn't make this any more art than LoZ: Windwaker or Killer 7. Just a different kind of art.

Joystiq Podcast 001 - The Dreamcast

I loved the blogcast guys and was glad to see joystiq getting in on that end of the internet news. As per your request for suggestions and constructive criticism, I humbly offer the following:

A.) Name it, "The 'Stiq"
B.) Incorporate segments, as other shows have done, as this helps to break up any monotony or dead air you may encounter.
C.) Feel free to reference other podcasts, as you can be sure lots of your listeners are checking out the 1up podcast, the 1up show, The hotspot from gamespot, ign gamescoop, etc. One of Major Nelson's Blogcast problems is that he doesn't shift from one segment to the other easily, there's a lot of dead air and he's notoriously boring for this (among other reasons) at times. To return to the origin of this suggestion though, when I say "reference" other podcasts I mean in terms of content. The 1up podcast (either that or egm live) have begun a "blog thread" if you will, in order to begin defining the historically important vidoegames (basically something that would serve as a basis or core syllabus for a class on the subject.) This kind of thing is easy to feed off of and would be of interest to most folks who are listening to gaming podcasts to begin with. The main reason most people (at very least myself) listen to many gaming podcasts is not because we like hearing the same news from different sources, but because we like the views offered on the news from different sources. Jeff Gertsman at Gamespot probably feels a lot different than Luke Smith from 1up about new Halo 3 info, whereas Hilary Goldstein at IGN probably won't have anything intelligent to say either way. But I digress.
D.) Please please please respond to one of my e-mails regarding being a Joystiq intern this summer. I have a resume, a cover letter, sample writings, a passion for videogames and I'd like to think I'm a pretty damned hard worker. I would love to help and go to school in Philadelphia. Pleeeeeeeaaaase!

K, good luck Joystiq. Blogcast #1 was good stuff, let's hope y'all implement more in the future. I'll be sure to keep adding suggestions/comments.

Slamdance left "half empty" over Super Columbine controversy [update 1]

Jan 29th 2007 3:23PM (Joystiq)
This IS an offensive game, or at least game title. It's not the morals behind it, it's common sense. Would it be cool to make a flight simulator where the eventuality is flying into the world trade center? Nooooooo. Please feel free to prove me very wrong, as I'm interested as to what could justify such a game.
