May 22nd 2008 6:04PM (Joystiq)I think it's a pretty dumb move - there have been retail titles that do horridly in ratings and early sale, yet become cult classics later in life.
Rumor: Australian retailers consider the 360 dead [Update 2]
Apr 7th 2008 12:26AM (Joystiq Xbox)Have you visited PS3Fanboy? Last year it's articles were almost all about how much the 360 sucked.
RE: the article.
I think we're seeing massive sales in the PS3 not because people want it more as a console, but because they want it as a BluRay player. Until recently it cost $1000 to get a PS3, and no one was buying them. Now they're a more reasonable $600 (although you'll still need around $150 more to the most out of it). Of course, we only have the 40gb, so no BC for us.
I'd be interesting at seeing connect rates / game sales.
In the words of the local Gametrader's owner when I bought my PS3 - "Why on earth are you buying /THAT/?" - to which I answered "meh? I have all the other consoles".
Penny Arcade XBLA game priced at $20
Mar 27th 2008 9:13PM (Joystiq Xbox)That's great for you US people who can buy your points in reasonable incriments. Over here in Australia we can only buy points in 1500 or 3000 point blocks.
the 1200 point price point makes more sense simply because it puts it in line with the Xbox classic games.
Oh, and in a stroke of marketing genius - 1500 points costs $24.95, 3000 points costs $54.95 which drunk idiot figured that out?
Is Sony the Apple of Gaming?
Mar 25th 2008 2:03AM (Joystiq Playstation)For instance, opening a web-browser to visit the store feels backwards.. the really neat interface is replaced with one that is really optimised for a mouse. Compared to the 360, where the store is tied into the interface (although, some people dislike having ads).
The PS3 also seems to be a little too "safe" ... "are you sure you want to turn of the console" etc..
The bluetooth remote is also a misconceived notion. The slightest bump turns on the console, and there is no way to turn it off (without looking at the screen) - not to mention having to have a seperate remote, as my Harmony isn't a bluetooth device.
It's a good media device, but the reasons above, and some random technical glitches, leave me using the 360 as my primary "media" player.
Oh, yeah, the 360 is loud as hell, but if that's a problem, your stereo isn't turned up enough :)
