Rumor: Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on by May

Feb 18th 2008 2:56PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Several good points being made here. I've been leaning towards getting a PS3 when the new 80 Gb replacement SKU hits for the Blu-Ray drive only. I'd MUCH rather get an add-on for my 360 any day of the week.

Taking cues from other posts, I'd like to see maybe some sort of mail in rebate for current HD-DVD add-on owners where maybe they can get 2 free Blu-ray movies when you upgrade to the new drive. Doubtful anything like this will happen but you can absolutely count on PS3s being bought by 360 owners within the next year if they don't drop an add-on soon.

Rumor: Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on by May

I'd totally buy one. I bought the HD-DVD add-on and I've got several movies as well. I just couldn't wait it out and wanted to enjoy HD movies now (deleting content on my drive blows so I don't have room for HD marketplace content).

It'd be nice to see them dropped in the same case as the HD-DVD players where. For those of us who have the HD-DVDs too they'd fit together nicely and look sweet in the entertainment center.

I'd imagine they'll be just like everything else M$/Sony are doing right now and there'll end up being several versions by the times its all said and done. 1) standalone BD 2) standalone BD/HD-DVD 3) internal BD/HD-DVD in the Elites or whatever the future equivalent to the Elite will be.

I'd love to get an Elite with a combo drive and a fat HD. I always thought eventually M$ would have one of the HD formats included in the systems and you'd end up seeing games shipped on both DVD and BD just like you've seen PC games on both CD/DVDs for the past several years.

Just my two cents.

Special Halo 3 Xbox 360 console announced

Dammit. I'd be all over it if it had the 120Gb drive. Should've just skinned the Elite instead...

Xbox 360's failure rate at 30%?

Bought at launch and I'm on console number four. Whatever you do, buy the in-store warranty every single time you have to exchange it. Don't even bother with M$ support. I made that mistake and their "support" is the biggest cluster**** I've ever dealt with. Nothing but the runaround and nobody seems to have a clue what the hell is going on.

Halo as performed by the Yale orchestra

I don't know how you can't be moved by the pieces show in this video. I can listen to them on a regular basis and still appreciate the emotion that is stirred up with them.

I would LOVE to be sitting front and center with a competent orchestra playing this and other rousing pieces. Call me a nerd if you like, but I think I'd be emotionally drained by the end of the evening.

Fanpoll: will you use 360 instant messaging?

I'll definetly be using this new feature but I'll pass on the mini-keyboard attachment. Although it is very kewl, I've already been using a wireless keyboard for quite awhile now and it works great.

Mass Effect is going to be one big RPG

@#11 If you're willing to put your opinion out in a public forum then your voluntarily putting yourself out there for judgement. Besides, I'm sure he was just joking anyway.

@#9 Oblivion a 40-hour game? Only way I could see that is if you flew through it with a guide and PFP'd it (Played For Points) without once doing a side quest. Then MAYBE you'd get through it in 40 hours.

I enjoy a good long game like Oblivion every so often and if its supported like it has been with expansion material all the better. Mass Effect looks to hit the sweet spot between too long and too short. A good 40-hour main quest (+/-10 hours) with plenty of optional quests sounds great. With the way games are today, 40 hours is probably the limit before things start getting old and repetitive.

KOTOR pwns all!! :)

Ring of Death: An Xbox 360 story -- Part 2

Feb 11th 2007 9:22PM (Joystiq)
I too am on my 4th 360 after I bought my first one at launch. Love the system to death but the hardware and service are pure crap. When my first coddled system died I received my first refurb...that was jacked up right out of the box (DOA). Its been one cluster**** after another with service and support. Took me roughly six weeks to get codes for reassociating my arcade purchases to my latest refurb.

I also had to send in my wireless headset which they received January 23rd...and I've still not heard anything. I called them just yesterday and they wheren't even sure they'd received it yet. What a freaking joke.
